Summary
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) works collaboratively with physicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective anesthesia administration before, during, and after medical procedures. The CRNA also plays a critical role in patient assessment, education, monitoring, and post-anesthesia recovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive pre-anesthesia assessments, including patient history, physical examination, and evaluation of diagnostic data.
- Develop individualized anesthesia care plans in collaboration with the surgical and medical team.
- Administer general, regional, local, and sedation anesthesia techniques based on patient needs and procedural requirements.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs, airway, and overall condition throughout surgical and procedural interventions.
- Adjust anesthesia delivery as needed to maintain patient safety and comfort.
- Provide immediate post-anesthesia care, including pain management, recovery assessment, and discharge readiness.
- Respond to emergency situations, including airway management, resuscitation, and crisis intervention.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of anesthesia care in patient records.
- Adhere to professional, legal, and ethical standards of anesthesia practice.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and clinical training.
Reports to: Chief CRNA
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nurse Anesthesia from an accredited program.
- Current certification as a CRNA through the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in the state of practice.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
