The opportunity:
The Accounting Team within the Accounting Operations Group is seeking a Sr. Accountant/Business Analyst in Duluth, GA. This role supports process improvement projects across accounting services and internal business partners.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
- Support the achievement of operational objectives through the study of business functions, comprehensive information gathering, and evaluation of output requirements and formats.
- Identify, develop, and enhance tools, reports, and metrics that facilitate ongoing performance improvement for the Shared Services team.
- Design workflow charts, process maps, and diagrams by analyzing system capabilities and preparing detailed specifications.
- Document enhanced procedures to support continuous improvement efforts.
- Monitor the progress of improvement projects by tracking activities, resolving issues, publishing periodic progress updates, recommending corrective actions, and maintaining key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Conduct and coordinate financial, product, market, operational, and related research to inform improvement initiatives.
- Manage projects from inception to completion—both large-scale and smaller assignments—in alignment with program objectives.
- Perform reviews and analyses of current processes utilizing operational metrics and reporting tools.
- Assess and communicate the financial and operational implications of proposed changes.
- Present data-driven recommendations for change to senior management and actively contribute to the implementation of approved strategies.
- Produce informative, actionable, and repeatable reports that emphasize relevant business trends and improvement opportunities.
What you need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business
- Experience with Alteryx, Power Apps, Power Automate, Qlik Analytics, JD Edwards, Hyperion and Blackline preferred,
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience with a large company
- Advanced Microsoft Office Skills with an emphasis in Excel and Access
- ERP systems experience. Comprehensive understanding of various integrated financial and accounting systems.
- Proactive/self-driven work habits with demonstrated ability to lead change and improve processes.
- Problem-solving/analytical skills.
- Ability to research technical accounting issues, propose solutions and stay on top of the progress until full resolution.
- Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communications capabilities;
- Strong customer service mindset / work collaboratively across the organization
- Strong attention to detail
- Must be flexible and able to multitask
- Strong organizational skills
