About this opportunity:

We are offering a Master Thesis project at Ericsson focused on building a data lake to derive core network insights and support AI development. The project involves working with cloud-native telecom systems, live network data, and data engineering concepts to design methods for collecting, organizing, and querying operational data. This is a collaborative effort with Ericsson Research and engineering teams, with two students each contributing 30 hp. The aim is to enable data-driven insights and pave the way for AI-enabled solutions in telecom core networks.

What you will do:

• Investigate and evaluate methods for collecting data from large-scale IT and telecom environments.
• Propose a robust data lake structure, covering storage, metadata/catalog, schema, and access controls.
• Design a practical data collection strategy tailored for telecom core networks, focusing on network performance and the characteristics of individual network functions.
• Implement a prototype and demonstrate at least one query against the designed data lake to illustrate how insights can be retrieved.
• Present results and recommendations to the Ericsson research team and discuss potential steps for AI development.

The skills you bring:

• Currently enrolled in a master’s program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Proficient in Python with the ability to write, test, and stress-test code.
• Strong ability to organize, model, and document data, including experience with data lakes.
• Knowledge of data architecture and modeling, gained through coursework or work experience.
• Practical ML/AI experience from courses or projects, including work with LLMs.
• Curious, creative, structured, and eager to explore new techniques and tools.
