SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

This position is available as either a 3-month internship or a 6-month co-op, contingent on the selected candidate and their school's support for co-ops in the spring. The program will start on January 12, 2026.

The successful candidate will work with Sawtooth Bridge Replacement Project to support overall project management functions for one of the nation’s most urgent infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Project Manager of Sawtooth Bridge Replacement Project, the selected 2026 Program Management Co-op or intern will assist in supporting the overall program management of Sawtooth Bridge Replacement.

This position is ideal for a self-starter with strong communication and technical skillsets to work collaboratively with the Sawtooth team and partners and in coordination with Amtrak Engineering, Planning, Communications, and agency stakeholders. This individual will support the team responsible for developing strategies, plans, funding and finance approaches, engineering and construction documents, leading field operations, and partnerships to advance the Sawtooth Project.

An individual in this role shall have experience and/or interest in one or more of the following subject areas: program/project management, urban planning, engineering, information technology, and/or public administration.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support review of project controls related to project/program scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Participate in monthly project development meetings.
  • Provide innovative technical and graphic support to provide recommendations for cost, document, risk, and organization management using Microsoft 365 Suite applications.
  • Assist as needed with executive-level reporting.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with key stakeholders and executives .Research, collect, and analyze information in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Multi-task and effectively manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Support/Lead field activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering or construction management.
  • Must have at least (2) year of academic graduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic understanding of Northeast Corridor rail operations with passion for transportation infrastructure.
  • Interest in one or more of the following subject areas – program/project management, urban planning, engineering, information technology, and/or graphic design.
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in excel and data analysis.
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency using Microsoft 365 Suite applications.
  • Demonstrate advanced corporate writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to provide oral and written communication of fundamental technical and analytical details.
  • Obsessive attention to detail and accuracy.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:

The Co-op hourly range is $20.00 per hour - $23.00 per hour/The intern hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
