Design Engineer
Location: Onsite in Beaverton, OR
Duration: ~5 months
Pay: ~$55/hour, DOE
The Planet Group is looking for a Design Engineer to join our well-known retail brand on a roughly 5-month contract! This role is 40 hours per week and will be onsite in Beaverton, OR.
Design Engineer Responsibilities:
- Collaborate cross-functionally on a wide variety of projects from developing new products, processes, and materials to improving manufacturing efficiencies on the existing product portfolio
- Utilize 3D design and engineering skills, leverage past experiences and that of teammates as a basis for solving problems along with identifying creative solution paths
- Join a daily morning team stand up meeting to determine the day’s priorities along with identifying tasks in the future in collaboration with cross-functional teammates
- Spend roughly 65% of time on these prioritized project work, followed by 25% on improving the existing product portfolio and 10% on creative exploration and functional initiatives
- Use concept sketches, 3D design software, engineering and/or machine design knowledge and ideas, and hands on experience to design, refine and carefully document tooling designs and machine components
- Work with designers, developers, engineers and tooling centers to develop solutions and designs that take into account the manufacturability of both the final product as well as tooling designs
- Use various methods of communication to assure key stakeholders are informed of your progress on projects
- Collaborate with internal customers, external vendors, and global teams to ensure your designs meet the needs of each project you are involved on
- Stay up to date on the critical skills required for the job through on-site training, conferences, or other functions which in order to maintain a high level of performance
Design Engineer Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, or other related degree or combination of relevant education, experience, and training
- 5+ years’ experience in the field of mechanical design and engineering, and/or product design, engineering and tooling design of plastic consumer products
- Proficiency in NX, NX CAD software is required
- Experience using PDM software, preferably Teamcenter, and in-depth understanding of revision control
- Ability to handle multiple competing projects simultaneously
- Possess a detailed and methodical approach to problem-solving
- Ability to analyse complex problems, develop innovative solutions and deal with ambiguity and frequent changes in priorities is required
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with teammates from other functions and at all levels
- Knowledge or experience in thermoforming is a plus
- Knowledge or experience in high volume manufacturing a plus
- Some lifting of tooling, parts and various equipment (up to 50lb)
- Adaptable, curious, solutions oriented, inclusive and respectful
- Comfortable with ambiguity, flexible to changing priorities, and a self-
