About the Role

As an Architectural Designer Intern at Z Modular (a division of Zekelman Industries), you will support our design and engineering team in developing modular building solutions that shape communities across North America. You’ll contribute to architectural drawings, shop drawings for fabrication, and code compliance research, while also learning how modular design integrates with on-site construction.

You will report to the Director of Architecture and Design and gain real-world experience in modular design, factory construction, and project integration. This is a full-time, on-site internship based in our Troy, MI office.

The official Zekelman internship program runs from May 26, 2026, through August 14, 2026.

This role is perfect for someone who is detail-oriented, collaborative, and excited to apply architectural knowledge in a unique and innovative construction environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in preparing architectural plans, sections, elevations, details, and other drafting tasks under the direction of a Project Architect.
  • Prepare shop drawings for plant fabrication using Revit.
  • Develop construction details for both shop installation and site-built conditions.
  • Research and identify products such as finishes and fixtures.
  • Research building codes and other standards for compliance.
  • Join team members for occasional on-site project observations in Arizona and Texas.
  • Provide solutions to daily design, sequencing, or integration challenges within the plant or on-site.
  • Promote safe and healthy work practices in compliance with company policy and regulatory standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with Revit.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
  • Collaborative team player with strong communication skills.
  • Available to travel for the Internship Summit, hosted at a Zekelman Industries location.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
