Role Overview
Cochlear is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Test Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, implementation, and verification of manufacturing test systems for our sound processors, accessories, and implants. This role is critical to ensuring product quality, safety, and efficiency in production through robust and innovative test solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Test Systems Design & Development
- Design and develop electrical test systems tailored to stakeholder needs.
- Create efficient test system designs by interpreting product schematics, electrical requirements, and mechanical drawings.
- Engineer electronic hardware for test platforms and custom fixtures, and/or develop test software. solutions.
- Coordinate the full lifecycle of test system development—from design and verification to production implementation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, firmware, mechanical, systems) to define and validate product test requirements.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and process to develop fit for purpose systems that are efficient, stable and sustainable.
- Provide expert feedback on testability to design teams and contribute to next-generation test system prototypes.
- Adhere to Cochlear’s proprietary Electrical Test System Design and Verification procedures.
2. Verification & Validation
- Own the verification and validation (V&V) of test systems to ensure safety, efficacy, and efficiency.
- Develop and execute V&V protocols aligned with manufacturing requirements.
3. Technical Documentation
- Translate product test requirements into actionable test system specifications.
- Manage and document change requests and process updates.
- Track and resolve test system issues using JIRA.
- Deliver comprehensive documentation including development plans, verification protocols, reports, and change notes.
- Ensure timely review and approval of all technical documents.
4. Team Collaboration & Contribution
- Deliver effective test solutions aligned with project milestones.
- Manage competing priorities and maintain focus on deliverables.
- Demonstrate initiative, problem-solving, and peer collaboration.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and uphold safety and quality standards.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Possess minimum of 7 – 12 years of experience with proven proficiency in test system development, V&V, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Expertise in test system engineering, including: Electronic hardware and instrumentation design with strong fundamentals in Circuit design and layout, Schematic reading, Analog/digital design, PCBA and control circuitry.
- Test software development (LabView, Python, C#) is ideal to have.
- Experience with electrical test instruments (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power meters, multimeters, etc.)
- Strong understanding of analog and digital hardware design.
- Ability to write clear, concise technical documentation.
- Proven expertise in verifying production test systems for electronic products.
Desired skills:
- Experience in system improvement, optimization, and maintenance of test systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills for complex systems.
- Familiarity with regulated environments such as medical device manufacturing.
