Job Description:

The opportunity

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Senior Project Controller to join our Grid Integration (GI) Projects team in Rotterdam, Netherlands. In this senior, hands-on role, you will be the financial co‑pilot acting as the CFO of the project, owning performance from tendering through execution and close‑out. You will lead tender controlling to shape competitive, profitable bids and then steer awarded projects to deliver on revenue, margin, cash, and risk targets. The preferred base is Rotterdam with hybrid working; approximately 10% travel to customer and project sites is expected. Fluency in Dutch and English is required.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Lead tender controlling for GI projects: build cost models and pricing scenarios; quantify risks/opportunities; drive internal approvals to on‑time bid submission.
  • Orchestrate a robust handover from tender to execution, ensuring budgets, baselines, KPIs, and contract/commercial positions are clear and actionable.
  • Own project financials post‑award: EAC/forecasting, revenue and margin tracking, WIP, and cash‑in/cash‑out to meet targets.
  • Drive contract and change management: identify variations/claims, build business cases, negotiate, and secure timely recovery to protect profitability.
  • Proactively manage risks and opportunities; maintain registers, quantify impacts, and implement mitigation plans aligned with company policy.
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition and compliance with IFRS and internal controls across all project locations; prepare for audits and resolve findings.
  • Lead performance reviews with the Project Manager; produce executive‑ready insights, KPIs, and recommendations, challenging assumptions to improve outcomes.
  • Take ownership of milestone billing, receivables, and cash collection; partner with credit, treasury, legal, SCM, and engineering to unlock cash and de‑risk delivery.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting (Master’s preferred) or equivalent, with solid IFRS and revenue recognition expertise.
  • 7–10+ years in project controlling/financial management on complex CAPEX/EPC projects; proven end‑to‑end experience in both tendering and execution.
  • Advanced ERP proficiency (SAP FI/CO, PS, S/4HANA) and strong Excel/Power BI skills.
  • Demonstrated success in change/claim management, risk management, and cash optimization.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder influence in Dutch and English.
  • Hands‑on, detail‑accurate, and improvement‑oriented; willing to travel ~10%. Industry background is flexible—energy/grid integration preferred but not required.
