In this project, you’ll take on a real engineering challenge: designing and testing advanced reverse current protection solutions for -48V DC systems, leveraging the remarkable capabilities of Gallium Nitride (GaN) FETs. Your mission? Push the boundaries of what’s possible—targeting up to 2kW of input power—and set new standards that surpass today’s leading Silicon-based designs, both in performance and efficiency.

From hands-on hardware prototyping to in-depth cost and size optimization, and possibly integrating the intelligent touch of microcontroller (MCU) control, your journey will be one of exploration, experimentation, and impact. Every result you achieve will feed directly into shaping next-generation power distribution systems within Ericsson’s global product range.

Your Thesis Journey Includes:

  • Investigating the challenges and requirements of reverse current protection in -48V DC applications.
  • Designing a GaN FET-based solution capable of handling up to 2kW input power.
  • Benchmarking your design against state-of-the-art Silicon-based counterparts.
  • Conducting detailed static and dynamic testing.
  • Optimizing the design for size, cost, and performance.
  • Building and validating working hardware prototypes.

The skills you bring:

  • An ongoing Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics.
  • Passion for power electronics and a drive to innovate.
  • Skills in both theoretical work and hands-on development.
  • Familiarity with hardware testing and performance evaluation.
  • A collaborative mindset and clear communication skills in English.
  • A keen eye for detail and optimization.
