Multiple, Tenure-track Faculty Positions in Microelectronics Design and Nanoscale Engineering

Position Summary

Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) is engaged in a multi-year initiative to expand research activities in microelectronics design and nanoscale engineering. The Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering invites applications for multiple tenure-track positions at the assistant professor rank to begin in the Fall of 2026. Appointments will be in the Intelligent Systems Engineering department, or other departments such as Computer Science and Informatics.

We welcome applicants in all areas of microelectronics and nanoscale engineering. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Low-power microelectronics
  • Wide-bandgap semiconductors
  • RF, millimeter-wave, analog, mixed-signal, and digital integrated circuits
  • Optoelectronics and photonics
  • Neuromorphic computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Quantum and 2D materials technologies & systems
  • Micro and nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS)
  • Electromagnetics and energy conversion
  • Radiation-tolerant devices, circuits, and systems
  • Sensor systems
  • Heterogeneous integrated circuits and advanced packaging
  • Reconfigurable, adaptive, and soft nanomaterials
  • Nanomembranes and nanodevices
  • Computational and data-driven modeling for nanomaterials discovery and design

We encourage applications from scholars who apply interdisciplinary perspectives across a variety of these domains and complement existing strengths within the department on radiation effects, reliable microelectronics design, security, trust, nanomedicine, nanobiotechnology, and nanophotonics.

These 10-month appointments would ideally start August 1, 2026, although an earlier or later start date is negotiable.

Responsibilities: Tenure track faculty at Indiana University Bloomington are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of their department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research portfolio including pursuing and obtaining major extramural research funding to conduct cutting-edge research both as a corresponding principal investigator and a collaborating investigator; teaching and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students as designated by the department chairperson; and actively providing service within the department, school and university alongside active engagement with the profession and/or the community.

These positions are located on the campus of Indiana University, Bloomington (IUB) in Bloomington, Indiana, and successful candidates are expected to work on the IUB campus to allow full engagement with the department, school, campus, and community. Indiana University bases its tenure and promotion recommendations upon performance in the three areas of research, teaching, and service. All individuals hired through this initiative are expected to excel in research and provide strong performance in teaching and service.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants should possess a PhD in engineering (or a related field) and be committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
