Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

• Partnering across teams to uplift our safety culture and support day to day operations including incident response, assessments, investigations, and continuous improvement
• Providing SME advice and guidance on WHS operations across the globe
• Supporting the design and operational delivery of Canva’s WHS strategy
• Evolving and embedding scalable safety systems, processes, and policies across the globe
• Shaping and delivering engaging safety training and awareness activities to ensure every employee understands their role in creating a safe workplace
• Developing metrics and reporting to monitor safety performance and analysis trends
• Escalating and providing regular updates and reports to the Head of Protective Security and relevant leaders

You're probably a match if

• You are a WHS subject matter expert with experience in global or national roles, ideally in fast-paced or high-growth organisations.
• You bring strong knowledge of WHS legislation (including the Australian WHS Act) and international standards such as ISO 45001 and ISO 31000.
• You have led large-scale WHS programs covering audits, risk assessments, RTW, and injury management.
• You are a skilled communicator who can influence senior leaders and drive a strong culture of safety.
• You thrive in distributed, global teams and are comfortable managing complexity and ambiguity.
• You have hands-on experience using AI in your work to drive greater impact

About the Protective Security Group

At Canva, we’re all constantly striving towards our Crazy Big Goals! Our group is responsible for protecting the safety of Canva's people, spaces, and information from physical harm. As a converged approach to security, the Protective Security Group works alongside our (information) security group and with other teams across Canva to prevent, detect and respond to physical safety and security risks.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Safety Operations Specialist who’s not just passionate about safety but excited to create environments where our people can truly thrive. This is a newly created role, designed to elevate and operationalise our global Work, Health and Safety (WHS) systems, processes and partnerships to support Canva’s growth. WHS responsibilities at Canva are shared across several key stakeholder teams (including Legal, People, and Facilities), each of whom plays a role in operationalising safety in their context.

This role is focused on our physical safety risk and operations. You’ll work closely as part of the Protective Security Group and collaborate across teams to further embed safety into our day-to-day operations.
