Kratos is seeking a highly skilled Transmitter Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the sustainment, overhaul, and modernization of the AN/SPY-1 radar system, specifically focused on the transmitter subsystem. The SME will provide technical expertise throughout the lifecycle of the system, including assessment of government-furnished equipment (GFE), design analysis, depot-level troubleshooting, and development of repair and test procedures. This role supports a multi-phase effort under an OTA framework to establish organic sustainment capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical lead for the AN/SPY-1 transmitter subsystem across all radar variants (D, D(V), D(MOD)).
  • Perform hardware assessments, root cause analysis, and fault isolation for high-power RF transmitters and subassemblies.
  • Support prototype development, repair process definition, and technical baseline creation.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering and depot teams to develop test strategies, calibration processes, and alignment procedures for transmitter cabinets and Line Replaceable Units (LRUs).
  • Identify and validate test equipment requirements, including common and peculiar support equipment, for depot stand-up.
  • Interface with Navy ISEA, OEMs, and industry partners to validate design data, resolve obsolescence issues, and maintain configuration alignment.
  • Support harvest planning and execution activities to ensure a viable pipeline of transmitter hardware for restoration and test.
  • Provide technical input to training materials, technical documentation, and Integrated Technical Data Packages (ITDPs).
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Navy METCAL processes, MIL-STD-2037, and other applicable standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working with AN/SPY-1 radar systems or other compex radar system, including deep technical knowledge of the transmitter subsystem.
  • Hands-on experience with high-power microwave and RF electronics, TWTs, and transmitter cooling and control subsystems.
  • Familiarity with shipboard and depot-level maintenance practices for radar systems.
  • Experience with schematics, wiring diagrams, and RF troubleshooting tools (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, etc.).
  • Ability to write and review test procedures, repair guides, and technical documentation for government acceptance.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with multi-disciplinary IPTs.
  • Active Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience supporting AEGIS fleet modernization, ordnance alterations (ORDALTs), and sustainment programs.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or digital engineering environments.
  • Understanding of Open Systems Architecture (OSA) principles and component-level modernization.
  • Experience working within a DoD or Navy acquisition environment, especially under OTA constructs.
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance

Travel: ~10–20%, including site visits to shipyards, government labs, and industry partner facilities.
