Job Overview:
The Industrial Engineering, Product Technology & Automation and Control Manager is responsible for driving the integration of process efficiency, technological innovation, and automation strategy across the manufacturing organization. This function ensures seamless coordination between product design, production systems, and digital technologies to achieve operational excellence, cost competitiveness, and manufacturing flexibility.
Responsibilities:
- Establishing and managing the Automation and Control manufacturing engineering team for process planning for the facility
- Establishing and managing the Industrial Engineering team for process planning for the facility
- Establishing and managing the Electric/Electronic team for process planning for the facility
- Contributes to the planning and implementation of new work processes to increase productivity
- Assesses new deigns and impact on production process, quality, quantity, efficiency and resources; Develops production layout for final Assembly
- Supervises planning, engineering and commissioning of all shops production equipment until final buy off together with suppliers and production team
- Defines cost targets, documents and monitors achievement, and if necessary implements corrective measures
- Implement the INTEGRA standards in the shops
- Ensures compliance of product-specific and plant-specific environmental concerns and government regulations
- Manages complex larger scale projects
- Coordinates suppliers on and off site
- Industrial Engineering, Work force planning, Product Technology Interface Electric & Electronic Diagnosis, Automation and Control Systems, Strategic Alignment and Continuous Improvement, People & Team Development
- Ensures compliance with relevant regulations, directives and work agreements
- Develops manufacturing processes, applies knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials
- Establish and promotes continuous improvement of production processes within team
- Ensures alignment with colleges in the plant and in international project groups
- Oversees the development and implementation of new production technologies and ensures continued process improvements
- Works closely with different departments on the development and implementation of production processes
- Facilitates regular team meetings
- Accountable for team performance
- Contributes to the development of implementation strategies

- Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
Master’s degree (preferred) in Engineering, Automation, or Engineering Management.
5 years of relevant professional experience preferably within the automotive industry.
Internal candidates require a completed PV-44
Demonstrated experience in:
- Industrial engineering methods (line balancing, layout optimization, time studies).
- New product industrialization and launch processes.
- Automation systems: PLCs, robotics, SCADA, HMI, and vision systems.
- Process optimization using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
- Cross-functional collaboration with engineering, quality, production, and IT.
Knowledge and Skills
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles, ergonomics, and work measurement systems (e.g., MTM, REFA, UAS).
- Knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley), robotics integration, and industrial communication protocols.
- Familiarity with MES systems, digital twins, and Industry 4.0/IIoT platforms, and INTEGRA Standars
- Experience with DFMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly), PFMEA, and structured problem-solving techniques (8D, A3, DMAIC).
Leadership & Management Skills:
- Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams (engineers, automation technicians, specialists).
- Skilled in project management, CAPEX planning, and technology implementation.
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities; capable of managing complexity and competing priorities.
- Effective communication across all organizational levels, including with global stakeholders and suppliers.
- High level of strategic thinking and change management capabilities.

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is a plant in Ladson, South Carolina that produces Sprinter vans for the U.S. and Canadian market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner. The midsize Mercedes-Benz Metris vans are also reassembled at this location.
Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC invested 500 million U.S. dollars in the construction of a new Sprinter production plant in addition to an expansion of the previous assembly operations. In September 2018, MBV officially opened its new plant, located next to existing operations in the North Charleston area. The MBV facility will provide up to 1,300 jobs by the end of the decade and is expected to create at least 600 additional jobs in the region through its suppliers.
More than 130,000 Sprinters have been assembled in North Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the second largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany.
