Position Description:

Designs, develops, and maintains robust and scalable digital services using Java. Deploys and coordinates applications using S3, EC2, RDS, EKS, and Kafka. Builds digital services in a serverless architecture using Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Lambda, and AWS ECS. Confers with systems analysts and other software engineers/developers to design systems and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participates in architecture design teams.
  • Defines and implements application-level architecture.
  • Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
  • Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
  • Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
  • Responsible for meeting project goals on-time and on-budget.
  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
  • Plans and coordinates project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
  • Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
  • Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.
  • Mentors junior team members.
  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.
  • Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) performing responsive Web design and software development, using Object-Oriented (OO) concepts.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) performing responsive Web design and software development, using Object-Oriented (OO) concepts.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) designing and developing customer facing enterprise Web, batch processing, and event-driven applications, and Enterprise Services, using Java/J2EE, JavaScript technologies (Spring, Spring Boot, Spring batch, Spring Actviti, BPM, and ReactJS), SQL and NOSQL databases, Web security technologies (OAuth and SAML), Messaging technologies (Kafka and IBM MQ), and SOAP/RESTful Web services.
  • DE designing, implementing, and developing Java/J2EE applications based on SOLID principles, design patterns, and 12 factor methodology; developing Enterprise Services and Web applications based on Test and Behavior Driven Development (TDD and BDD), using Junit, Jest, and Cucumber; developing design artifacts -- sequence, timing, and ERD artifacts -- using UML and Smart Draw; and performing Web application development and debugging in Windows and Unix environments, using Eclipse, IntelliJ, and VSCode.
  • DE designing, developing, implementing, and testing (quality control) frameworks for Java/J2EE, JavaScript, Cloud based Web, Batch Processing applications, and Node.js based Enterprise Services, using Junit, Mockito, Power Mock, Jest, Rest Assured, Cucumber, Postman (for smoke testing), and JMeter (for performance testing).
  • DE deploying and monitoring Enterprise Web based Services on Cloud environments to provide the Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) of applications, using Jenkins, NPM, Maven (for package management), and Nexus; performing version control using Git; performing issue tracking using Jira and Service Now; performing log tracking using Splunk; and providing Continuous Delivery according to Agile methodologies.
