We are currently seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer with a power design background at Richardson, TX. As a critical team member and electronics architect, the Principal Electrical Engineer will design, develop, and integrate the most technologically advanced systems in the world. The Principal Electrical Engineer is a lead position responsible for clean sheet and upgrade electronic solutions. The Principal Electrical Engineer will work with other experienced engineers with extensive backgrounds in circuit card and firmware design, as well as mentoring less experienced engineers as they complete power supply or power-centric circuit card designs. The candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and will have the ability to work self-guided yet collaboratively in a team environment.

What You Will Do:

  • Experience in designing high power systems or power supplies.
  • Experience with determining power usage and performing thermal derating
  • Knowledge of or experience with PCB layout, board stack ups, via structures, grounding strategies, impedance matching, trace width calculations
  • Experience with power circuitry simulation tools
  • Experience with pre-placement of components and ability to coordinate with mechanical engineers to generation board outline files for circuit cards
  • Ability to generate and communicate requirements and specifications for vendors to facilitate the quote and design of new hardware
  • Experience with developing power and grounding architecture/plan at a subsystem or rack level
  • Experience in industry circuit board design tools (Xpedition Enterprise preferred)
  • The ability to train and mentor early-career engineers
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Top Secret clearance. Selected candidate will be subject to security investigations/reinstatements and must meet eligibility requirements.
  • Active possession of an active U.S. government issued Secret or Top Secret clearance.
  • Working knowledge of MIL-STD-704 for power in military applications
  • TEMPEST design experience
  • Working knowledge of EMI/EMC standards for military applications.
  • Experience designing for Military Aircraft applications
  • Experience using ALM tools including Jira and Confluence
  • Experience working with industry standard toolsets for requirement capture and task management (e.g. DOORs, Microsoft Project)
  • Experience in developing test procedures and test fixtures
  • Ability to read, create, and review engineering drawings including schematics, assembly drawings and parts lists
  • Experience designing power for RF circuitry
  • Experience with Mentor Graphics tool suite
  • Proven analytical skills using in-circuit simulation (Matlab, LT Spice)
  • Experience with CAM (Cost Account Management) duties
  • Ability to lead teams and report status to management

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
