Design & Release Engineer for Propulsion Systems

Job Description:

  • Design, specify, test, validate and release Propulsion Systems components for assigned vehicle families; analyze and solve part-related failures; propose, validate, and obtain cost reductions on these parts.
  • Process documentation on changes or modifications to components from assigned vehicle families (Change Notices).

Responsibilities:

  • Review component changes (specifications, production location, tooling refurbishment, TIER 2 suppliers, etc.) from suppliers, process documentation and authorize required testing (DVP&R) on these changes (Forever Requirements).
  • Request and authorize required testing to systems, parts, and components for assigned vehicle families to validate compliance on Design Requirements (Design Verification Plan & Report, DVP&R).
  • Create and evaluate requests for component functional testing in assembly plants before implementation into normal production. (Production Evaluation Request).
  • Release temporary approvals for part validation on assigned vehicle families. (Interim Approval Authorization).
  • Analyze and solve functional and durability failures on components in assigned vehicle families. (GIMS support the GIMs problem management process, Expense per unit sold and C/1000, Launch Indicators Issues).
  • Support Service Team developing Technical Service Bulletin, Tech Master Video, GPOP, Star Online Publication and Service Procedure Updates according to service improvements for their components.
  • Part development with suppliers according to "Source Package” process.
  • Support to Assembly Plants on the usage and application of specifications and design changes according to Engineering Changes.
  • Usage of hardware and software tools to create and modify designs according to assigned commodity. Attend training and development plan to acquire required abilities and knowledge to comply with individual and team goals.
  • Standardize and benchmark components (performance, weight, cost efficiency).
  • Create and update DFMEA documents.
  • Approve or reject documents for Temporary Substitution on components in Assembly Plant.
  • Request prototype part manufacturing to solve warranty issues.
  • Create cost reduction proposals.
  • Obtainment of product changes information, implementation dates, service and/or recall technical bulletins, Product Engineering standards, bill of material and Engineering graphs.
  • Creation and approval of Tool Kick Off (TKO) request for parts on assigned vehicle families.
  • Verify product manufacturing process before mass production release.
  • Request and obtain concurrencies on validations, temporary and definitive product deviations.
  • Coordinate DFMEAs and PFMEAs with suppliers.
  • Support Pilot and Pre-series events in Assembly Plants.
  • Design parts in NX Software (2D & 3D).

Design Experience In The Following Components:

  • Internal Combustion Engine / Electric Motor / Power Electronics accessories' components.
  • Support Brackets for Electronic Modules
  • Internal and surrounding components from Internal Combustion Engine

Place of Performance of The Activities:

  • Chrysler Technology Center, Auburn Hills, Michigan
  • Occasional day trips to Client facilities and suppliers in the Detroit area

Requirements:

  • Previous experience: 3+ years in automotive industry as Product Engineer or product development-related position.
  • Solid knowledge in automotive vehicles and systems, assembly and manufacturing, part validation and automotive systems.
  • Knowledge in Internal Combustion Engines, thermodynamics and statistics; testing, validation and failure solving in Automotive Industry or similar.
  • Good skills to communicate and present ideas, as well as experience in basic software suits (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Minitab, etc.)
  • Computer-design software skill in NX and/or CATIA.
  • Proactive, analytical, inquiring attitude; synthesis capability, team player.
  • Disciplined and planning capacity.

Optional:

  • DFSS Green Belt/Black Belt certified
  • Reactive Green/Black Belt certified

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automotive, Electro-mechanical, etc.).
