Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer
Job Description
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for leading and designing electrical power distribution and signal networks for auxiliary equipment in Gas Turbine projects. The focus is primarily on low-voltage systems (600V and below) involving equipment such as MCCs, LV Transformers, DC Systems, and Batteries.
Responsibilities
- Develop single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, electrical load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, cable schedules, and termination schedules.
- Create power system plans, lighting plans, electrical room layouts, elevation drawings, conduit/cable tray arrangements, and hazardous area classifications.
- Perform calculations for equipment sizing, including breakers, overload devices, relays, cables/conduits/equipment spacing, illumination levels, and maintain BOMs.
- Develop and review electrical, control, and instrumentation wiring diagrams and cable lists using SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) or SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
- Prepare purchase specifications for electrical equipment and select vendors for constructing electrical packages.
- Generate electrical drawing packages to document logic, point-to-point wiring, and system interaction.
- Interpret and design according to code requirements from relevant authorities, investigating and understanding applicable electrical codes such as NEC/NFPA 70, CEC, IEC, ISA, and AGA.
- Meet regularly with vendors to ensure technical and schedule requirements are met.
- Interpret and integrate design requirements from parent company.
- Respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.
- Utilize SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), and SmartPlant 3D (S3D) for designing electrical power and control systems.
- Possess working knowledge of electrical and instrumentation design for industrial facilities.
- Preferred experience with Generators (150 MVA ratings and above) for Gas or Steam Turbines.
- Comply with safety policies, practices, and procedures, reporting unsafe activities.
- Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Contribute to building a positive team spirit and communicate effectively with all levels of employees.
- Handle assignments, including rework, promptly to meet schedule deadlines.
- Ensure quality by following standard work/process instructions, identifying potential risks to product quality.
- Develop schedules, coordinate, and manage the design for projects with minimal supervision.
- Simplify product designs for improved manufacturability and cost reduction without compromising quality.
- Assist Sales, Marketing, and Development Engineering in enhancing and developing product lines.
- Meet schedule requirements for project engineering deliverables.
- Provide technical support during manufacturing and commissioning of equipment.
- Lead junior engineers and interns, supporting their development.
- Travel requirement up to 10%.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum three years of experience in industrial facility power distribution design (up to 600VAC and 220VDC).
- Strong familiarity with National Electric Code NFPA 70.
- Proficiency with SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) and SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
- Experience with SmartPlant 3D (S3D) for electrical design.
- Knowledge of NEMA, IEC, IEEE, ISA, ANSI, NFPA 70E, UL, CSA, TUV, ISA, AGA codes and standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with AutoCAD and lighting software such as DIALux and Visual.
- Past experience with SmartSketch.
- Familiarity with Gas/Steam Turbines.
- Inclination towards computer programming languages is encouraged.
Work Environment
This position is based in Lake Mary, FL, with a hybrid work schedule of 3 days in-office and 2 days remote. The role involves collaboration with various levels of employees, vendors, and field personnel, emphasizing safety and compliance with company policies.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $43.00/hr.
