As a Principal Program Manager in the WW Engineering and Innovation (WWEI) organization, in the Strategic Programs (SP) team, you will be responsible for benchmarking, ideating, and creating strategy charters to solve problem statements and opportunities that spans across multiple business lines, across countries/regions, over a long term horizon. Your role will ensure these strategies drive step change improvements across cost-to-serve, speed improvements, and defect reductions metrics company-wide. You will work both independently going after market research and industry data on technologies, solutions, equipment innovations, and across internal technical and product teams on their innovation ideas, pilots, and future roadmaps. Your charters initiate strategic projects across WWEI and peer engineering and tech teams that seamlessly become part of company-wide roadmaps. A key aspect of your role will be bringing strategic topics for VP-level discussions and alignment.

Key job responsibilities

  • Create and implement Strategic Programs (SP) mental model, framework, and charter for WW Engineering and Innovation (WWEI) organization
  • Define multi-year engineering roadmaps aligning with business goals and emerging technologies
  • Mapping out how each vertical within WWEI's long term roadmaps, and across other Engineering/Tech team's roadmaps converges and where there are gaps for innovation and strategy
  • Analyze data within Amazon and across the industry, and build trusted reports that present data-backed insights and recommendations
  • Collecting industry leading technology and product improvements happening in other emerging countries such as MENA, India, Japan, LATAM
  • Provide engineering oversight across multiple teams of engineers, product, and process experts
  • Create strategy charters based on unique problem statements with high customer impact potential, and present findings and drive VP-level alignment on recommendations
  • Lead ideation of high-priority worldwide initiatives while ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and objectives
  • Influence company-wide technical engineering decisions through participation in senior leadership forums
  • Mentor Program Managers within the Strategic Programs team on strategy creation, benchmarking, and leadership presentations
  • Collaborate with internal teams, seek feedback from directors, and facilitate VP-level decisions through effective communication and transparent data reports
  • Lead the development and distribution of executive-level business reviews, with focus on continuous innovation and strategy roadmaps
  • Pioneer new approaches to solve complex engineering optimization problems in transportation, logistics, and fulfillment

A day in the life

You will identify areas of innovation and need for business strategies that delivers measurable organizational impact. Your strategy charters will propose and drive new initiatives across the organization. Working independently benchmarking industry leading-edge technologies and automations, you will compare and evaluate the need for strategies to fast track innovation and new product requirements. Your role involves synthesizing complex information for executive-level reviews while maintaining clear communication channels to keep all stakeholders informed of new strategies and impacts.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams experience
  • 7+ years of program or project management experience
  • 7+ years of managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership experience
  • Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements
  • Bachelor's degree in technology, engineering, supply chain, business, finance or related field
  • Experience owning long-term strategy and execution of large-scale engineering initiatives across multiple teams
  • Experience in collecting and evaluating technical and engineering project results, and turning them into insights and proposals
  • Expert knowledge of system design, engineering, and automation equipment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree, or MBA in business, operations, business or strategy development, or related field
  • Experience with autonomous systems or robotics
  • Experience with logistics systems or optimization problems
  • Background in operations research or mathematical optimization

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $124,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $206,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
