As a Controls Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting ride control systems for a variety of attractions, including roller coasters, smart vehicles, and dark rides. This role blends creativity, technical expertise, and collaboration to deliver safe and innovative guest experiences.

This is a Full-Time role based in Anaheim, CA, reporting to the Senior Manager of Ride Control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support control systems from concept through commissioning.
  • Write and review Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) software (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and develop test plans.
  • Design hardware systems including processors, I/O, HMI, and wiring.
  • Perform system-level analysis and hazard assessments (e.g., FMEA, fault tree).
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate high-level requirements into technical solutions.
  • Support field testing and troubleshooting of ride systems.
  • Maintain documentation and adhere to safety and change control processes.
  • Stay current with industry trends and technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial control systems and automation protocols.
  • Strong understanding of fail-safe design principles.
  • Proficient in technical communication, including with non-technical audiences.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, and function generators.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to Safety PLCs and safety-rated control systems.
  • Familiarity with NEC, UL 508A, and electrical safety standards.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting tools.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and power systems.
  • Programming experience in C, C#, VB, or JS.
  • Theme park or amusement industry experience.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program.

The hiring range for this position in Anaheim, CA is $104,600.00 to $127,800.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, depending on the level and position offered.
