Job Title: Systems Specialist - Building Automation Service
Job Description
We are seeking a Systems Specialist to start up, commission, and re-commission customer systems that utilize Direct Digital Control (DDC) technology. This role involves troubleshooting mid-level systems problems, providing turnkey project delivery, and ensuring proper operation in collaboration with subcontractors and other trades. The position requires maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring the effective operation of unitary systems, small air handling units, and basic cooling/heating systems.
Responsibilities
- Start up, commission, and re-commission customer systems that utilize DDC technology.
- Troubleshoot mid-level systems problems and assist others in resolving issues.
- Provide turnkey project delivery on small projects with 80 or fewer budgeted hours.
- Handle unitary systems, small AHUs, basic CW/HW systems, and front-end tasks.
- Complete all required commissioning documentation and maintain accurate As-Built drawing packages.
- Ensure timely completion of paperwork, including time sheets, expense reports, work orders, and project status reports.
- Responsible for total system operation from controllers to sensors, loading software, and setting up trends, alarms, and reports.
- Calibrate systems using basic electronic test equipment such as multi-meters and laptops.
- Perform mid-level static commissioning of software programming.
- Conduct site-specific training for owners/operators on the total system.
- Set up operator workstations with all associated software.
- Perform job database backups daily or as advised.
- Assist with project turnover to the Service Department.
- Communicate effectively with customers and keep the Project Manager informed on progress.
- Maintain a daily log of pertinent job-related activities.
- Adhere to safety standards, prioritizing the safety of employees and subcontractors.
Essential Skills
- Proficient in HVAC, computer, electrical, and technician skills.
- Experience in installation, commissioning, and controls in building automation.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities and familiarity with wiring harnesses and electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and TCP/IP networking.
- Competent in using electronics, oscilloscopes, and digital multimeters.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in building HVAC with a focus on building automation controls (3- or 4-year program).
- Field experience and understanding of Automated Logic Controls.
- Ability to understand and navigate third-party control systems and integrations.
- Experience with Automated Logic and Phoenix software, including WebCtrl, SiteBuilder, and other relevant platforms.
- Experience managing multiple simultaneous challenges across different disciplines.
Work Environment
The position covers the NY and NJ territories. Candidates will drive their own vehicles and receive reimbursement for daily expenses like tolls and mileage, up to 56 miles per day. There is no requirement to report to Clifton daily; employees can travel directly to job sites from home. Contractors are eligible for reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses. Upon transitioning to a full-time position, employees receive additional benefits such as a company car and credit card. The role requires physical capability to climb ladders and lift items up to 50lbs. The typical work hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with no on-call shifts in the installation group.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $57.69/hr.
