Your Role and Responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact, as you will be accountable for:
- Firmware Development: Design, develop, and implement firmware for industrial protection circuit breakers and communication modules, ensuring robust functionality and cybersecurity.
- Software Quality Assurance: Conduct unit, integration, and system testing to validate software performance and reliability.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with system architects and hardware/software engineers to translate system requirements into detailed firmware specifications.
- Innovation and Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to intellectual property creation and collaborate with global engineering teams to drive continuous improvement and share expertise.
Qualifications for the Role
- You are highly skilled in C/C++/Python/assembler backed by solid computer science fundamentals.
- You have solid knowledge in structured development processes, ranging from requirement analysis, design, and implementation to test and documentation.
- You have at least 5 years of experience in designing firmware development for embedded industrial applications based on microcontrollers/microprocessors.
- Possess an enhanced knowledge of development infrastructure: Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (git), lifecycle management, build systems, unit testing, debug probes, oscilloscopes, and similar tools.
- Exposure to Cyber Security concepts and knowledge of main industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, IEC61850, Profibus, CAN bus) are a plus.
- You are passionate about team working and innovation.
- M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in Information or Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems, or comparable field
- You are at ease communicating in English and Italian
