Senior Director, External Communications

What does a successful Senior Director, External Communications do?

We’re seeking a strategic and highly collaborative Senior Director, External Communications, to be responsible for developing and executing communication strategies that support the company's growth and reputation, focusing on compelling narratives and engaging audiences. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with deep expertise in Corporate Communications, including experience in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) and Incident communications, media relations, executive communications, and crisis management. They will manage complex communication plans to ensure communication is timely, consistent, and tailored to all stakeholders. What you will do:

  • Develop and lead an external communications strategy aligned with the vision and business objectives across the enterprise for all business and client-facing functions.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives in partnership with marketing and administrative groups.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with top-tier media and trade outlets.
  • Liaise with agency partners to execute always-on, robust media efforts that support the company and business goals.
  • Identify high impact speaking opportunities and events for executive teams.
  • Serve as a strategic partner during reputation-sensitive events, crisis scenarios, and support incident communications and change management.
  • Develop compelling press releases, media kits, bylines, blogs, and corporate announcements for external audiences.
  • Lead message development and storytelling initiatives that reinforce brand values at the enterprise level ensuring quality, clarity, and consistency.

What you will need to have:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in external or corporate communications.
  • Media relations track record with top-tier business media.
  • Expertise in C-Suite level executive communications, reputation management, and crisis communications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, and/or equivalent military experience.

What would be great to have:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Prior experience in a highly regulated industries (e.g., financial services, fintech, healthcare).

Important information about this role:

  • This role is on-site Monday through Friday. Fiserv considers in-person collaboration to be an essential part of this role as in-person office experiences help you with your overall onboarding experience and leads to stronger productivity.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time and work weekends/evenings, as necessary.
  • In order to be considered, you must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without need for sponsorship now or in the future.
  • This is a full-time, direct-hire position, and no contract options for unsolicited agency submissions will be considered.

Salary Range

$114,100.00 - $192,200.00

These pay ranges apply to employees in New Jersey, New York and California. Pay ranges for employees in other states may differ.

For incentive eligible associates, the successful candidate is eligible for an annual incentive opportunity which may be delivered as a mix of cash bonus and equity awards in the Company’s sole discretion.
