Purpose of Role: The mechanical designer will work on creating the hardware used for our AI-driven products for the mining industry. They will join a high-performing cross-functional team comprising software, hardware, and AI developers to ensure we have a rugged solution for our customers. Key Responsibilities:

  • Hardware Design : Responsible for designing and maintaining both new and existing hardware systems at the system level. This includes integrating various sensors and electronics in a safe, rugged manner, as well as developing enclosures, mounting solutions, and vibration isolation systems. Emphasis is placed on ensuring ease of maintenance and long-term product support.
  • Testing : Accountable for validating hardware designs to ensure they meet project requirements. This involves designing experiments to evaluate technical performance, documenting results with clear pass/fail outcomes, and collaborating with external labs for vibration, environmental, EMI, and safety testing.
  • Documentation Create and maintain comprehensive manufacturing documentation for both in-house and outsourced production. Track all design changes meticulously and develop clear installation and maintenance guides for internal teams and end users.
  • Project Management & Autonomy Lead and execute individual hardware projects with a high degree of autonomy. Responsible for managing timelines, deliverables, and proactively identifying and mitigating project risks and challenges

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: Minimum 2 years of professional experience, with a degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field—or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical Skills: Strong grasp of mechanical principles, materials, and manufacturing processes; proficient in CAD and simulation tools (SolidWorks preferred); experienced in Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Cross-Disciplinary Knowledge: Hands-on experience with electrical circuits and embedded systems; familiarity with PCB design and layout.
  • Professional Attributes: Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively; motivated by growth and results; interested in mentoring junior developers.
  • Additional Requirements: Willingness to travel internationally up to 10% of the time to various mine sites.

Compensation: $80,000 to 95,000 CAD
