Overview:

As the most senior member of the DBA team, the Principal Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for architecting, managing, and optimizing the organization's database infrastructure. This role demands expert-level technical proficiency in database administration, particularly in Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server platforms, along with specialized expertise in Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) administration and configuration. This individual contributor position will lead complex database initiatives, provide strategic technical guidance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support high-availability, security, and compliance across all database environments.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Database Architecture & Management:

  • Act as the lead technical expert, providing guidance and mentorship to other DBA team members.
  • Manage the architecture, administration, monitoring, and optimization of Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases for optimal performance and availability.
  • Oversee complex installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching, including Oracle RAC clusters and Microsoft SQL Server HA clusters.
  • Develop and implement advanced high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) strategies aligned with business needs.
  • Design and implement cloud-based database solutions on platforms like Azure, AWS, and OCI to ensure scalability and resilience.
  • Perform advanced performance tuning, capacity planning, and growth management to meet organizational demands, utilizing tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer (DPA).
  • Implement automation to streamline routine database operations, including backup/recovery, performance monitoring, and alerting.

Application DBA Support:

  • Oversee the configuration, installation, and deployment of Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), ensuring system stability, scalability, and compliance.
  • Lead EBS patch management, upgrades, and environment cloning to support business applications.
  • Collaborate with application teams to enhance EBS application performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize database design, queries, and schema structure.
  • Support application deployment and update processes, ensuring integration of database changes with compliance to separation of duties requirements.
  • Collaborate with application development teams to enhance database design, query performance, and schema structure.

Database Security and Compliance:

  • Partner with internal and external audit teams to ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements, including control design, documentation, testing, and audit reporting.
  • Manage database security, including user access control, encryption, and data masking, to protect sensitive information and adhere to regulatory standards.
  • Provide SOX related reporting and audit request compliance checks as required to satisfy audit requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate closely with development, operations, and security teams to align database strategies with business objectives.
  • Work with IT teams to develop and execute robust backup, recovery, and archiving plans.
  • Ensure database systems meet industry-standard security protocols and internal organizational requirements.

Key Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of hands-on database administration experience, with expert-level knowledge in Oracle Database technologies (e.g., RAC, ASM, Data Guard, OEM) and Microsoft SQL Server (e.g., HA, Clustering, SSIS, SSRS).
  • Extensive experience with Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), including installation, configuration, environment cloning, patching, upgrades, and performance optimization.
  • Strong understanding of SOX compliance, with experience managing audit controls, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced skills in performance tuning, capacity planning, and backup/recovery for high-demand environments.
  • Proficiency in database security, encryption, and regulatory compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field preferred but not required.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation to provide after hours support as needed.

Working Environment/Safety Requirements:

  • Ensure necessary working environment and capabilities to effectively carry out responsibilities if working from a non-Vestis location (remote work)
  • Ability and willingness to handle work related issues during all hours of the day, every day of the week, understanding the responsibility of our organization’s requirement for 24/7 production support
  • Ability, willingness, and flexibility to travel as needed for approved work purposes in accordance with project and management schedules

License Requirements/Certifications:

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license (for rental cars when applicable)
