Position Overview

Join our team as a Database Administration Manager responsible for leading our DBA team, optimizing SQL Server environments, and ensuring database performance and availability.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and mentor a team of DBAs, providing technical direction and professional development.
  • Serve as the primary DBA, supporting our custom C# POS, OMS & Inventory Management system (Unity Enterprise), our Enterprise Data Warehouse and other 3rd party applications in support of a $5+ Billion business with over 750 locations.
  • Optimize and tune complex queries, analyze and interpret SQL Server execution plans, and recommend indexing strategies to improve database performance and efficiency.
  • Oversee and manage high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, including Always On Availability Groups across multiple data centers (DR/HA), database backups, and restores.
  • Plan and implement database maintenance strategies, including patching, upgrades, statistics updates, and regular health checks.
  • Evaluate, implement, and manage database monitoring and automation solutions to ensure system health and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and optimal database support for mission-critical applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues, locking/blocking, deadlocks, and production outages.
  • Support after-hours activities including patching, DR testing, and responding to production incidents as required.
  • Maintain a 24x7 on-call rotation for operational issues
  • Participate in capacity planning, data modeling, and architectural decisions for new and existing systems.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, standards, and best practices for database environments.
  • Ensure database security, user access controls, and adherence to compliance/audit requirements.

Skills We Are Seeking:

  • Expertise in SQL Server (2016/2019/2022): Deep knowledge of core DBA concepts, administration, and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced T-SQL skills: Ability to write, optimize, and review complex queries, stored procedures, and functions.
  • Query performance tuning: Strong ability to analyze execution plans, recommend and implement indexing strategies, and resolve performance bottlenecks.
  • High-availability and disaster recovery: Experience with Always On Availability Groups, backup/restore, and DR planning/testing.
  • Experience with large-scale environments: Managing multi-terabyte databases and supporting high-volume, concurrent workloads.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills: Ability to rapidly diagnose and resolve production issues under pressure.
  • Leadership and communication: Experience mentoring DBAs, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Security and compliance: Understanding of database security best practices, auditing, encryption, and access management.
  • Flexibility for after-hours work: Willingness to support critical patching, DR testing, and urgent production issues during nights and weekends as needed.

Preferred Skills:

  • Azure SQL Database: Familiarity with managing, monitoring, and optimizing Azure SQL databases.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant SQL DBA experience
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience
