Research Associate (Cognitive Neuroscience/Biomedical Engineering/Computer Science/Life Science/Psychology)

Nanyang Technological University

The Cognitive Neuroimaging Centre (CoNiC) is one of the NTU’s strategic shared research facilities, serving the NTU research community and other partnering institutions. It focuses on exploring the structure and functions of the

human brain, with particular emphasis on both normal and pathological cognitive processes. Located in the Experimental Medicine Building on NTU’s main campus, CoNiC is equipped with state-of-the-art neuroimaging and brain monitoring technologies. These include a Siemens Prisma 3T MRI scanner, a Siemens 0T mock scanner, an Elekta Triux MEG system, as well as EEG, fNIRS, TMS and other neuroimaging modalities.

As a strategic shared research facility, CoNiC places strong emphasis on service quality, operational excellence and scientific integrity. With growing demand and increasing complexity in neuroimaging research, it continues to play a key role in advancing both basic and clinical research.

We are seeking a Research Associate to support the execution of neuroimaging research activities at CoNiC. The successful candidate will assist in conducting neuroimaging experiments, processing data and implementing analysis pipelines under the guidance of the Research Fellow and Centre Director/Assistant Director. This role also includes supporting users with data postprocessing, contributing to protocol implementation and maintaining documentation and records for ongoing studies. The Research Associate will play a valuable role in advancing multidisciplinary research and ensuring the smooth operation of CoNiC’s shared facility services. The role is based across both the Experimental Medicine Building (EMB) at NTU’s main campus and the Clinical Sciences Building (CSB) at the Novena campus. Flexibility to work at either site, depending on project and operational requirements, is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and execution of experiments using MRI and other neuroimaging modalities (MEG, EEG, fNIRS, TMS, tDCS), under the supervision of the Research Fellow and Centre Director/Assistant Director
  • Perform MRI postprocessing and support data analysis using neuroimaging software such as SPM, CONN, BrainVoyager, EEGlab and NIRSlab
  • Apply programming skills in MATLAB, Python, PsychoPy or E-Prime to assist with stimulus presentation and data handling
  • Conduct statistical analysis using tools such as SPSS, R or Python
  • Support the development and refinement of analysis pipelines and contribute to harmonising protocols across studies
  • Assist in the preparation, submission and maintenance of ethics documents for Institutional Review Board approval
  • Support participant recruitment, coordination and scheduling in accordance with study protocols
  • Assist in training staff and students in standard procedures for neuroimaging data collection and analysis
  • Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, datasets and analysis workflows
  • Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals
  • Contribute to CoNiC’s mission by supporting methodological improvements and facilitating collaborative research activities
  • Working hand-in-hand with the Assistant Director, support day-to-day operations of the centre including software and system updates relevant to imaging workflows
  • Undertake any other duties assigned by the Research Fellow, Centre Director or Assistant Director

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Cognitive Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences, Psychology or a related field
  • Hands-on experience in neuroimaging research is preferred, particularly in MRI data postprocessing and analysis
  • Familiarity with other modalities such as MEG, EEG, TMS and fNIRS is an added advantage
  • Proficiency in programming tools such as MATLAB and Python is essential
  • Experience using neuroimaging software such as SPM, CONN, BrainVoyager, EEGlab or NIRSlab
  • Working knowledge of experiment design and stimulus presentation software such as PsychoPy or E-Prime
  • Ability to perform basic statistical analyses using tools such as SPSS, R or Python
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail in managing datasets and documenting analysis workflows
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to collaborate with team members and support users
  • Willingness to learn new imaging techniques, software tools and protocols
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work effectively under the supervision of the Research Fellow and Centre Director or Assistant Director
  • Willingness to work across both NTU’s main campus (EMB) and the Novena campus (CSB), depending on project requirements
  • Entry Level candidates with relevant training and strong technical skills are welcome to apply
