Spare Part Engineering Manager

Primary Purpose:

Manage the Spare part Item master for the Mexico and Andina Region, support the Operations team to achieve excellence in terms of OEE by leading strategies to secure the availability of high-quality parts when those are required, while also minimizing the size of the inventory and the cost related to the purchase and storing of parts.

This position interfaces with Procurement, Plant buyers, storeroom coordinators, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations to leverage purchasing power, increase availability and quality of the right parts, reduce plant-owned spare part inventory levels, and pursue innovative programs to increase productivity while reducing procurement and carrying costs.

Primary Duties:

  • Item Master Management: Oversee and maintain the item master, ensuring accurate records of all spare parts across all plants. Manage and optimize the addition of new parts into the item master in Maximo, and control drawings, material specifications and manuals provided by vendors.
  • Standardization: Homologate parts for the México & Andina region under a standard nomenclature, including descriptions and product families.
  • Inventory Optimization: Consolidate MRO purchasing data for analysis, and deliver YOY Inventory optimization programs for the region as:

o The consolidated purchase of spare parts per family through preferred vendors to reduce price and improve availability of parts within the country and locally.

o The Identification and replication of local sourcing strategies within plants, for commodity parts and other items that do not require OE manufacture.

o Develop and certify local vendors to supply OE parts, matching or increasing reliability and life expectation while reducing cost of the part or the cost of downtime (faster to change, faster to maintain).The establishment of a forecast process to predict future spare parts requirements based on equipment usage and wear, ensuring optimal stock levels. the introduction of a central storeroom to keep strategic parts available to all plants within the region while reducing inventory costs.

o Introduce vendor management when applicable and value added to plants.

o Coordinate parts needs with PM programs to maximize fabrication savings across the region.

  • Performance Metrics: Implement area scorecards in Power BI to measure weekly and monthly metrics, quickly identifying deviations from established baselines (e.g., rising MRO spend, increase in expedited freight charges, spare parts unavailability).
  • Inventory Control: Enforce inventory tracking requirements and conduct audits as necessary (e.g., cycle-counting, receiving, and delivery processes).
  • Best Practices: Engage Plant buyers and storeroom coordinators to share and discuss best business practices.
  • Vendor Relations: Work with procurement to negotiate contracts and prices with vendors, developing and maintaining strong supplier relationships.
  • Vendor-Owned Parts: Coordinate vendor-owned parts agreements with Procurement, warranty tracking, and extending the lifecycle of equipment and automation.

Job Specifications:

  • Proficient English speaker.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering.
  • 2 years of experience on Maintenance roles as technician, shift lead or supervisor, dealing with the quality and availability of parts on the storeroom.
  • 5 years of equivalent work experience in managing Maintenance storerooms for large industrial manufacturing sites, as well as proven experience leading Inventory optimization initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical and electrical parts, quality attributes and its use in machinery
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization
  • Excellent team building and communication skills
  • Ability to set priorities, work independently, and coordinate multiple projects utilizing available resources
  • Experience using Maximo as EAM/CMMS
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple sites in the region.
  • Ability to travel as required (10% – 25%)
