Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer DevOps – Network DevOps Engineer III (25-226) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This position, based in Colorado Springs, CO, plays a crucial role in supporting the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is the core element of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor the progress of the battle, and actively manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that provides an optimized response to threats of all ranges at every phase of flight. C2BMC acts as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to enhance performance. Additionally, C2BMC is an essential part of all system ground and flight tests, which verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.

As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and managing our CI/CD pipeline tools, including GitLab, Nexus, and Python. You will also be responsible for executing configuration management processes, including releases and versioning of managed configurations, as well as creating automated pipelines to deploy new configurations into lab environments. The position is based at an LM facility in Colorado Springs, CO, in the long term; however, this role requires the ability to travel to alternate work locations as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Apply principles, theories, and concepts to develop innovative and comprehensive solutions for a wide range of complex problems
  • Work under general guidance, with results reviewed afterward to ensure objectives are met
  • Support the C2BMC Program as a DevOps Engineer by managing GitLab, maintaining proper documentation, and generating reports
  • Perform data management using existing program tools, including documentation, training, and reporting
  • Help with release management as needed
  • Develop, deploy, and sustain a CI/CD pipeline for the NES ART
  • Create, update, and present KPIs and other metrics related to the CI/CD pipeline and configuration management
  • Build and maintain a test pipeline across multiple labs
  • Execute other tasks as required by the program

Basic Qualifications:

Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of experience; or 9 years of related experience may substitute for a degree
  • Applicants must possess a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is necessary to start with the ability to obtain Top Secret clearance
  • DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+ CE, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP, CCNA Security, etc.) is required to start
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
  • Effective communication and writing skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially PowerPoint and Visio)
  • Experience with GitLab and related concepts:
    • Branching
    • Merging, etc.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to follow processes
  • Proficient in Python, Bash, and PowerShell

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A current and active in-scope DoD-issued Top Secret clearance is highly desirable
  • Experience working with Jira and Confluence
  • Basic knowledge of network engineering
  • Experience creating and updating processes and procedures
  • Experience working with automation tools such as Ansible
  • Developing KPIs and tracking metrics, with experience creating reports
  • Experience working in a DoD environment
  • Prior experience with C2BMC

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:

Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
