Job Title: Design Engineer

Job Description

As a Design Engineer, you will design and analyze magnetic components such as high-frequency inductors and large multi-phase dry type water and conduction cooled transformers and ATRUs. Your role will involve leveraging extensive knowledge of materials and construction techniques and understanding how they affect component characteristics. You will focus on components with power ratings from 100W to 500kW and voltages ranging from 100V to 13.8KV, ideally with experience in military or aerospace sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Create engineering requirements for magnetic components and systems.
  • Conduct FEM and circuit simulations, using results to optimize performance and guide design decisions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to design, validate, and manufacture magnetic components.
  • Work closely with internal and external teams.
  • Build prototype components and assemblies, optimizing them to meet system requirements.
  • Coordinate with the manufacturing team to produce parts to specification, improve quality, and enhance yield.
  • Develop a thermal management strategy in collaboration with the mechanical team.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical design and engineering expertise.
  • Proficiency in Creo Parametric Pro/Engineer.
  • Understanding of magnetics (inductors, transformers, Planar magnetics).
  • Experience with FEM and circuit simulation tools (Matlab, Comsol).
  • Capability in thermal FEM and thermal and vibration analysis.
  • Hands-on approach for prototype building and testing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • BS and/or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, CAD, and sheet metal design.

Work Environment

The role is based in an office and manufacturing site. The work culture is fast-paced and deadline-driven, which can be stressful. You will be part of an engineering team consisting of 32 members across various skill sets. The current dress code is polo or button-down shirts with jeans or slacks, and the working hours are Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $160000.00/yr.
