To safeguard the life and health of the citizens of Louisiana by assuring that persons practicing as Registered Nurses and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses are competent and safe.

This highly responsible, advanced-level position ensures that student credentials, Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licenses are timely issued to all eligible applicants who have completed the requirements for licensure. This position must exercise sound judgment, creativity, and resourcefulness in all areas of responsibility and must be proficient in the use of computers. Position requires the ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures and to communicate the same verbally and in writing in a professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in the issuance, maintenance, or reinstatement of licenses; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Examines and analyzes data submitted by and/or on behalf of each applicant for RN and APRN licensure for accuracy, authenticity, and completeness of information to document determination of eligibility and qualification for licensure and prepares the file.
  • Receives, analyzes, and verifies the authenticity of diplomas, certifications, and licenses submitted by applicants, institutions, and/or other licensing authorities.
  • Conducts pre-licensure investigations of each applicant for eligibility and/or qualifications for licensure.
  • Schedules and coordinates all aspects of the requisite interviews of applicants. Records findings and recommendations and prepares official record for each applicant for presentation lo and consideration by the RN staff of the Board as applicable, for which further approval is required.
  • Researches records, makes requests and responds to requests for information to/from entities that include professional organizations, hospital administrators, health care entities, providers, federal, state, and local law Page 3 of 3 enforcement agencies, other federal, state and local officials, general public, and other licensing and/or certification entities relative to applicants, statutes, rules and regulations and other public information.

The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.
