About the Role

As an HDG Utility at Zekelman Industries, in Rochelle, IL, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the manufacturing line by providing essential support, performing inspections, and assisting with minor operational issues. This role is perfect for someone who is mechanically inclined, has great problem-solving skills, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Pay: $26 + Production Incentive

What You’ll Do

  • Supports the manufacturing line by filling/staging material, testing products, and providing coverage for breaks, vacations, or call-offs as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Ensures compliance with company safety policies, reporting unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents.
  • Assists employees with operational issues, including clearing jams, changing tools, and adjusting equipment.
  • Coordinates with Maintenance, Shipping, Waste Water, Quality, and Safety departments to execute actions and meet expectations.
  • Assists in setups, performs operational checks, and conducts product inspections to ensure efficiency and quality.
  • Interacts with MES stations and software to log downtime, capture data, consume materials, and submit work orders.
  • Trains employees on equipment components, including crane and forklift operations, as assigned by the supervisor.

Who You Are

  • 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing or operations role, preferably in a production or assembly environment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Technical Skills – Familiar with MES systems and software for logging downtime, capturing information, and submitting work orders.
  • Soft Skills – Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Additional Qualifications – Forklift and crane certifications required.

Physical Abilities

  • Must be able to lift and move materials up to [specify weight].
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual labor tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining safety and quality standards.
