We are seeking an Engineer II, Mechanical Engineering, to join our team in Rockford, IL, supporting military program-related customer support, test development, qualification, and production / field support of aircraft engine mounted generators. In this critical role, you will be supporting Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations for test failures during the development and qualification phase. You will validate and implement corrective actions, collaborate with suppliers on issue resolution, and provide clear technical and programmatic communication to management and external partners. The ideal candidate will be a self-driven professional capable of independently creating, managing, and executing investigation plans that ensure product reliability and meet rigorous military standards.

What You Will Do

  • Validate and implement corrective actions to address identified issues.
  • Communicate technical findings and program status related to production and field issues to internal program offices and external customers.
  • Independently develop, manage, and execute comprehensive investigation plans.
  • Provide support for development qualifications and testing activities related to assembly processes.
  • Create Engineering documentation such as hardware specification development, test plans, analytical reports, and test reports.
  • Assist manufacturing and repair teams in conducting RCCA investigations for test failures, production returns, and field-reported issues.
  • Effectively communicate with management, suppliers, customers, and members of the technical design team
  • Participate in design discussions and customer presentations.
  • Adhere and develop engineering standard work.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Requires a degree in Engineering and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field

Qualifications We Prefer

  • 2 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing environments
  • Hands-on experience with Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) methodologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to internal teams and external customers
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Experience on an engineering team being involved with design, test, and manufacturing of mechanical components.
  • Background with structural and thermal analysis, and 3D design software
  • Experience with Excel (i.e., VBA, Solver, etc.)
  • Experience with rotating hardware technologies with pumps, gears, transmissions, and generators
  • Background with engineering drawings

The salary range for this role is 66,000 USD - 130,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
