KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development of the GRD from the Global OPR GRD specification contributor,
  • GRD OFCI specification contributor,
  • Support teams in navigating GRD Change Management using the defined process,
  • Provide input and review GRD Change Management Lead direction on GRD Cx and Quality Requirements,
  • Act as a focal point for lessons learned to include in GRD development and to cascade to Regional Design Management teams,
  • Support Regional teams with understanding of Global Client Requirements (SoQ and CDE responses),
  • Carries out Design reviews of regional projects for compliance with Global OPR and GRD and recommends changes and future development,
  • Carries out Design Reviews of requested deviations to and derogations from Global OPR and GRD and makes recommendations as required,
  • Participates and contributes to monthly discipline meetings / lessons learned/ sharing across all regions
  • Liaises with Design Management leads and other technical SME’s as required,
  • Supports design managers and AE firms with regional understanding of OPR and GRD,
  • Collaborate with Design Management team to ensure design deliverables meet company strategic goals. Conduct QA/QC of design and documentation, including but not limited to construction drawings and commissioning test scripts as required to support regional teams,
  • Collaborate with A/E’s to ensure design concepts and product selection align with GRD strategic goals for developing and operating cost effective, highly efficient, and reliable Data Centers.
  • Supports in providing Supplier Management feedback
  • Collaborate w. NTT organizations such as TechOps and CFOPs to resolve issues during Cx L3, L4s or post construction handover.
  • Prepare training presentations for organizations such as sales engineers and supply chain.
  • Support site masterplanning to ensure understanding of OPR and GRD and reflection in test fits,
  • Contribute to and provide feedback on GRD and OPR as required,
  • Support continuous development of tools, process and procedures for best practice design management.
  • Support long term relationships with key third party design vendors.
  • Review quality and value for money received through A/E appointments
  • Contribute to driving innovation and standardisation in design to improve reliability, constructability, repeatability to reduce time and cost of the localisation and delivery of the GRD,
  • Contribute to the overall NTT GDC culture as well as the Design team culture of collaboration and support as one GDC.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS

  • University degree in Engineering ( preferably Electrical, Mechanical, Architectural, Building Engineering or related discipline)
  • Membership of a professional institution recognised as relevant to the data centre sector

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 10 years experience in data centres and or other mission critical M&E led industries,
  • Experience of working in multi disciplinary design teams preferably in a leading role,
  • Experience in design consultant / client Engineer / site engineer / contractor engineer roles,
  • International experience and outlook both in type of company and project experience,
  • Ideally has experience with hyperscale customers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift heavy equipment, up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of sight, hearing and voice are required as well as motor skills.
  • Able to hear and speak with others and to use a telephone and 2-way radio.
  • Close visual work on a computer terminal.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.

WORK CONDITIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a global role, which will require up to 15% international travel and regular collaboration and meetings across the world.
  • Extensive daily usage of a computer or workstation.
  • This position is expected to be remote with travel approximately 15% of the time.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Must be willing to work to support a global business.

This is a remote position that requires reliable internet connection and electricity. A monthly stipend is provided to cover expenses associated with working remotely and use of a personal mobile device, if applicable.

NTT Global Data Centers Americas, Inc. offers competitive compensation based on experience, education, and location. Base salary for this position is $ 157,500.00 - $ 292,500.00.

The Director, Facilities Design is a leadership role, responsible for leading a team of Design Managers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and overseeing design development of facilities construction projects. The design effort involves coordination between cross functional experts and external vendors/consultants. This role assigns projects and tasks to their teams and monitors their progress and ensures alignment with project budgets and schedules.

The Director, Facilities Design is a creative, detail-oriented problem solver with excellent communication skills that can achieve high quality standards while carefully considering cost and feasibility factors. This role possesses good judgment to meet project objectives, with the ability to collaborate and manage the accountabilities of a diverse interdisciplinary team focused on creating and maintaining the best facilities environments in industry.

This leadership role strives towards fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture focused on achieving operational excellence.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversees the preparation and execution of stakeholder/vendor agreements, defining Scope of Work, Scope of Services and Fees based on project requirements, design standards, and system specifications.
  • Manages day-to-day design related activities in the area assigning and managing workload of design team.
  • Manages the day-to-day activities of the SME team and manages the technical issues that arise in design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Contributes to the continuous development of program standards and specifications.
  • Collaborations with cross functional teams as to product to build, options and timeline, and provide solutions to meet project goals.
  • Collaborates when needed to discuss new process efficiencies and/or new products and/or facilities configurations.
  • Responsible for ensuring that design standards are followed, unless project conditions warrant deviations. If so, obtain consensus and document.
  • Ensures compliance with standards on all projects and assure that these standards are up to date with industry best practices and meet the company’s business objectives (Emphasis on value-engineering).
  • Oversees maintaining and updating relevant design standards/requirements.
  • Assists in the preparation and review of budgets and forecasts related to anticipated design and construction expenditures.
  • Develops and maintains vendor relationships (Contractors, Architects, Engineers, Consultants, etc.) to provide cost-effective services for projects.
  • Solicits pricing from consultants via RFP’s or pricing exercises to ensure best price and best work results.
  • Reviews Contracts and Scope documents to verify needs based on project requirements.
  • May evaluate proposals and recommendations to management regarding vendor selection.
  • Coordinates with internal organization on sustainability issues related to design and best practices.
  • Prepares monthly project reports regarding the budget, schedule and scope objectives of assigned projects.

Academic qualifications and certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Design, Architecture, Engineering, or in related field.
  • Relevant professional licenses or certifications are desirable.

Required experience:

  • Significant experience working in similar facilities environments or other technically sophisticated project types.
  • Significant experience with new construction, tenant improvements and capital improvement projects.
  • Significant experience with consultant negotiation and management.
  • Significant experience leading project teams and coordinating multiple and diverse stakeholder requirements.
  • Significant experience with Revit and/or other BIM applications.
  • Significant experience leading and managing facilities design teams and other cross functional teams.
  • Significant working acumen with CSA and MEP systems development; Architectural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering education or experience is a plus.
