Overview
The College of Engineering (COE) at Oregon State University, Oregon’s premier research university, seeks an energetic, entrepreneurial, and public-spirited leader as Head for the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). The School Head will collaborate closely with the Dean and the College leadership team to identify, develop, and expand academic and research programs, aligning with the College’s and the University’s ambitious goals outlined in the strategic plan, Prosperity Widely Shared. The School of EECS conducts discovery- and solutions-driven research addressing the world’s most complex technological challenges in areas such as analog and mixed-signal electronics, artificial intelligence, end-user software, wireless and computing technologies, renewable energy, robotics, and transparent electronics. With the upcoming inauguration of the Jen-Hsun Huang and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex and one of the fastest supercomputers, the position offers an exciting opportunity for leadership at the forefront of engineering education and research.
The Head will provide organizational and administrative expertise to lead large-scale on-campus and online academic programs, including interdisciplinary programs in AI and Robotics. EECS delivers a comprehensive, state-of-the-art education that prepares around 5,000 undergraduate, 200 Ph.D., and 350 Master’s students for successful careers in industry and academia. Computer Science and Electrical Engineering are two of the largest graduate programs within the university. EECS is also home to an online post-baccalaureate degree in Computer Science, which is the only one of its kind in the nation. EECS has over 70 tenured/tenure-track faculty, more than 40 percent of whom have won young investigator/CAREER awards. EECS executes over $18 million in research expenditures each year. EECS maintains strong industry partnerships that create a pipeline for graduates and keep the curriculum and research relevant. The School has been experiencing rapid growth in the number of faculty and students, which is expected to continue.
As a member of the College’s leadership team, the Head of EECS will be critical to the future success of the College and the University. Dean Forrest Masters, who assumed leadership of the College in July 2025, has ambitious plans to expand its national and international prominence. Each School Head serves alongside the other four School Heads on the COE leadership team and plays a key role in aligning their respective school with the College’s mission to achieve greater success. The OSU College of Engineering is committed to being recognized as a national model of inclusivity and collaboration. COE strives to develop a community of faculty, students, and staff that is inclusive, collaborative, diverse, and centered on the success of all.
