We are looking for a high calibre Principal Design Engineer - HV Design to join our York office as part of the Rail Electrification business. You will report directly to our Engineering Manager and will uphold a wide variety of experience in High Voltage Substation Design as you will be responsible for the production, development, delivery and innovation in substation designs on a number of exciting major projects.

Within this role, you will also lead the HV Design team providing direction and making sure all quality of work meets the technical, safety and budgetary requirements. There is also an expectation to offer support and guidance to site engineer personnel and project teams in the production of tenders/offers for new works and scope changes. Another crucial part within the role is being the primary contact for our customers and clients and be required to handle the design interfaces with other disciplines to ensure a smooth and coherent design approach taking into account both the clients and Siemens quality and safety policies.

You’ll make a difference by

• Leading and inspiring the designers by example, through the maintenance of team vision, standards and morale
• Managing the overall development of fully compliant suitable designs ensuring these meet the contract requirements with the overall responsibility for assurance of all team delivery ensuring technical and safety standards are maintained
• Focusing on individual and team development to assist with the expansion of the Electrification and Plant Design teams through mentorship, training, developing and recruiting effective system design engineers
• Providing effective leadership for the project and design team covering cross-discipline work streams
• Influencing design and construction safety performance and champion a zero incident culture
• Supporting the project commercial process to ensure all design change requests are processed timely and efficiently

Your success will be grounded by

• An Engineering Degree, HND or HNC
• High Voltage Substation design for the Traction Power System or HV transmission and distribution systems
• Member of the IET or other recognised Professional body
• Demonstrable, validated experience of interfacing with clients and representing a company other parties
• Extensive knowledge of appropriate Railway and associated discipline standards (preferred)
• Wide variety of experience in design and implementation of rail traction power systems with a consistent record of delivery good quality designs (preferred)
