Job Title: Senior FPGA Design Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Senior FPGA Design Engineer to lead the development of advanced FPGA-based solutions for motion control systems, including servo drives and position feedback sensors. This role involves designing high-performance, real-time systems that integrate motor control loops, signal processing, communication protocols, and CPU interfaces. As a key member of a collaborative, cross-functional team, you will help define the technical direction of next-generation industrial automation products.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, specify, design, develop, and test FPGA solutions using Verilog or VHDL on Xilinx FPGA and SoC platforms.
  • Implement communication protocols for communication with serial and networked devices.
  • Develop and optimize interfaces to power electronics (e.g., ADCs, DACs, PWM) and CPUs (e.g., AXI, SPI) for smooth system integration.
  • Lead FPGA design strategy, managing resource allocation, timing closure, and verification to achieve sub-microsecond timing capture and control loop response for real-time performance demands.
  • Understand and work with a complicated base of code with the ability to grasp concepts quickly.
  • Split work evenly between new development and sustainment of existing projects.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of FPGA experience.
  • Extensive experience within RTL and Verilog.
  • Strong knowledge of FPGA integration in electronics.
  • Experience with implementing serial protocol (CANbus preferred), VHDL, C, C++, System level design, chip design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of C, C++, or C# (C# is used for testing software, not highly critical).
  • Experience with processors/microcontrollers.

Work Environment

This position is on-site in Radford, VA, working on a team of 4-5 engineers, including software and embedded engineers. The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Teamwork and collaboration are highly valued, and the position offers exposure to interesting product lines and opportunities to work with machine builders that enhance manufacturing efficiency. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $67.00 - $76.92/hr.
