As a member of the SDA MS&A team with MTSI, you will be instrumental in evolving and enhancing an existing model for space systems, supporting the Tranche 1 mission and paving the way for Tranche 2 and beyond. Working closely with the Tranche 1 Mission Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the model's portability across platforms, extending its capabilities, incorporating network metrics, representing the impact of availability and reliability, and performing analysis to support verification and system testing. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in space systems and modeling and simulation techniques and have significant experience with STK (Systems Tool Kit). Occasional travel will be required.
Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:
- Model Development
- Collaborate with the Tranche 1 Mission Engineer to understand the existing model's architecture and dependencies.
- Refactor and optimize the model to ensure it can run as a standalone application.
- Thoroughly test and validate the model's performance and accuracy.
- Continuously expand the capabilities of the existing model to represent more complex space system behaviors and interactions.
- Implement new features and functionalities based on requirements from the Tranche 1 Mission Engineer and other stakeholders.
- Extend the model's scope to support analysis and simulations related to Tranche 2 and future system developments.
- Incorporate network metrics (e.g., latency, bandwidth, packet loss) into the model to accurately represent the impact of network performance on overall system performance based on separate network analysis.
- Develop and integrate models to represent the availability and reliability of space system components and subsystems.
- Verification & System Test Support:
- Perform detailed analysis using the model to support Tranche 1 verification and system testing activities.
- Develop test cases and scenarios to validate the model's accuracy and identify potential issues.
- Generate reports and presentations summarizing analysis results and recommendations.
- Work closely with the verification and test teams to ensure the model effectively supports their activities.
- STK Expertise:
- Utilize STK (Systems Tool Kit) extensively for modeling and simulating space system environments, including satellite orbits, communications links, and sensor coverage.
- Develop and maintain STK scenarios and models.
- Integrate STK with other modeling tools and platforms.
- Develop high fidelity graphics and visualizations from STK scenarios
- Import historical telemetry feeds into scenarios to assist in forensic performance analysis
- Documentation & Collaboration:
- Develop and maintain thorough documentation of the model's architecture, functionality, and usage.
- Collaborate effectively with other engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure the model meets their needs.
- Participate in technical reviews and presentations
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in modeling and simulation, with a focus on space systems.
- Demonstrated experience with Systems Tool Kit (STK)
- Experience integrating and automating STK with programming languages, especially Python
- Experience using STK to model RF links
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in modeling and simulation techniques
- In-depth knowledge of space systems, including satellite orbits, communications, and sensors
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred/Desired Experience:
- Experience developing architecture, CONOPS, and use case documents is preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in the DoD or Intelligence Community
- STK Certification
- Detailed knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Mission Planning
- Optical communications links
- Ka band communications payloads
- Tactical data links including IBS and Link 16
- IR sensor processing algorithms and sensor hardware
- Mesh networking

- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineer, systems engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or a closely related field from an accredited university (REQUIRED)
- Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineer, systems engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or a closely related field from an accredited university (DESIRED)
Clearance Requirements:
- Active SECRET clearance with the ability to receive a TOP SECRET with sensitive compartmentalized information (SCI)
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance as a condition of employment.
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
Location/Travel Requirements:
- This position may require travel up to 15% of time within and outside the continental United States.
