Economist, WW Integrated Marketing Systems & Intelligence

Amazon

DESCRIPTION

WW Integrated Marketing Systems and Intelligence (WIMSI) is seeking a skilled and driven Economist to develop empirical frameworks and causal inference models that shape how Amazon engages customers at scale through marketing.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of data science, product, and engineering across teams in the US and EU to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing interventions, optimize resource allocation, and inform strategy across the marketing funnel—from awareness to conversion. You will develop and own the design of econometric models and experiments that deliver actionable insights into customer behavior, campaign performance, pricing, and channel efficiency.

You are expected to independently frame ambiguous business problems, construct rigorous economic models, and validate them using both observational and experimental data. You will contribute directly to the development of scalable systems that automate decision-making, improve targeting, and maximize long-term customer value.

Success in this role requires a strong foundation in econometrics and statistics, a deep understanding of experimental design and causal inference methods, and the ability to clearly communicate results and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders. You should demonstrate strong business judgment, a bias for action, and a commitment to delivering mechanisms—not just analysis—that scale.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop and implement econometric models to measure the impact of marketing strategies across the funnel (upper, mid, lower), including causal inference models for campaign attribution, incrementality, and ROI analysis.
  • Design and execute experiments (e.g., A/B tests, geo experiments, synthetic controls) to validate hypotheses and inform high-impact decisions on targeting, channel mix, and messaging strategy.
  • Own analytical workstreams independently, from problem formulation and data acquisition through model development and communication of results to stakeholders across science, product, and marketing.
  • Translate economic findings into business action by delivering clear, decision-ready insights and scalable mechanisms that drive optimization of marketing operations and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and PMs to integrate economic models into production systems, ensuring technical robustness and real-world applicability in high-scale environments.
