Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $27.00 to $28.00/hour. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full hourly range for this position is $25.77 to $43.58/hour.
Work Location: Students Affairs and Administrative Services Building, Room 2201
Working Days and Hours: Mon-Fri; 4 hours between 8am-5pm (hours need to be approved by supervisor)

Department Marketing Statement:
The Capital Internship Program (CIP) administers the UC Washington Center (UCDC) and the UC Center Sacramento (UCCS) programs at UCSB. Whether in DC or Sacramento, students intern for academic credit and enroll in academic coursework. The department provides advising, outreach and support for students interested in participating, and collaborates with the campus community and the UCDC/UCCS Systemwide Offices for recruitment, application review and program implementation.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Associate Director and working in coordination with the Director, the Capital Internship Program (CIP) Advisor (UC Washington Center/UC Sacramento) encourages students to participate in the program. Conducts outreach/recruitment efforts to meet program target goals and prepares students for the internship search process. Promotes the UC Washington Center (UCDC) and / UC Sacramento (UCCS) programs to campus departments and students. UCDC/UCCS programs provide UCSB students with an opportunity to live, work as interns, and study in our nation's political epicenter, Washington, D.C. and in the California capital city of Sacramento. Internships are available in a wide range of areas such as public policy, non-profit organizations, Congress and other government agencies, and a wide variety of organizations. The advisor provides all student services aspects for this program including outreach, marketing (in collaboration with the Marketing Specialist), advising, application, pre-departure and re-entry stages. Serves as the UCSB liaison to the staff at UCDC/UCCS systemwide offices. Works closely with academic departments to integrate the UCDC/UCCS experience into the major. Works under the general supervision of the Associate Director. Provides administrative support to CIP Campus Director and Associate Director as needed, including backup support for performing front desk duties as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Special Conditions of Employment:
This position is in a job classification that recently became part of the Student Services and Advising Professionals (SSAP) bargaining unit. This is a newly-established unit that is exclusively represented by the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW).
The University and the UAW will begin bargaining over the terms and conditions of employment for the SSAP unit in Summer 2025. Until such time as a Collective Bargaining Agreement can be fully agreed-upon and ratified, the terms and conditions of employment for positions in the SSAP unit will continue to be governed by Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM).
