Job Description: Assists in the planning, forecasting, implementation, and identification of resource requirements for network systems of high complexity. Designs and establishes protocol compatibility standards, develops and implements network enhancements, and makes recommendations for improvement. Responsible for the implementation of network architecture and designs.

Core Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Integrates and schematically depicts communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links, and protocols into complete network configurations.
  • Participates in network planning, network architecture design, and engineering.
  • Develops and implements approved methods of procedure (MOP).
  • Performs network problem resolution by providing escalated tier support across organizations and to third-party vendors.
  • Works on one or more projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project team lead.
  • Coaches less experienced staff.
  • Adheres to industry-specific local, state, and federal regulations as applicable.
  • Knows, understands, and follows company policy.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the manager.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, adapting as needed
  • Demonstrated in-depth data networking knowledge (OSI and TCP/IP Model, and Optical Transport).
  • Demonstrated grasp of route path engineering concepts using industry standard routing protocols (BGP, ISIS, OSPF, Multicast).
  • Strong understanding of Layer 2 technologies such as fault-tolerance, redundancy, and overlays (STP/Fabric-Path, vPC/MLAG, HSRP/VRRP, VXLAN/EVPN).
  • Topological understanding of network design/architecture, such as data center spine/leaf and backbone confederated, or hub-and-spoke, autonomous systems
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of network designing software, such as Lucid Charts or Visio.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of Network Engineering-related work.
  • Industry and vendor-specific certifications and training (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, HP, F5, A10, Palo Alto)

Working Conditions:

  • May work in the Network Lab Data Center Environment
  • Office Environment

Pay Range:

$35 - $50 per hour
