Summary

Provide engineering services to SRP in a technically sound, safe, timely and cost-effective manner to enable SRP to realize its near and long-term goals for providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable water and power.

What You'll Do

  • Support the execution of future technology development activities in accordance with strategic direction, goals, objectives, and SRP’s 2050 sustainability goals.
  • In conjunction with other departments, evaluate the fit for future technologies at existing and future sites based on specific use case scenarios. Future technology options may include carbon capture and storage, hydrogen infrastructure, hydrogen-fueled turbines, inverter- and non-inverter based long-duration energy storage, enhanced and advanced geothermal, direct-air carbon capture, advanced nuclear, and other emerging energy technologies.
  • Performs engineering design work, engineering studies, and analyses.
  • Performs as engineering project leader.
  • Prepare and/or conduct written and oral reports and presentations.
  • Prepare specifications, evaluates bids, and prepare recommendation for management consideration.
  • Administers and reviews work performed by consultants and/or other external service providers.
  • Serve as liaison and information source on select future technologies to other departments.
  • Provide technical support to staff and management.
  • Actively participate in industry groups and organizations related to advanced generation technologies.
  • Actively mentors less-experienced engineers on technical, project management, and/or best practices related activities.
  • Perform other tasks and projects as may be assigned.

What It Takes To Succeed

Background and Work Experience:

  • Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial engineering degree preferred
  • Work experience with power generation facilities or other similar industrial processes
  • Experience with managing project budgets and schedules

Technical Knowledge Base and Skillsets

  • Ability to use software tools required for the job
  • Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Python, Excel VBA, or similar programming languages
  • AVEVA PI, especially PI Vision, Asset framework, and DataLink
  • Other tools as needed

Understanding of engineering fundamentals related to power plants and this role

  • Experience with power generation systems
  • Familiarity with operations and maintenance of power generation systems
  • Familiarity with future energy generation technologies
  • Other engineering fundamentals as needed

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel for industry organization functions, conferences, and associated training
  • Travel to SRP facilities and power plants as required to support projects and maintain relationships

Other

  • Ability to manage project budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to work effectively with various organizational groups within SRP.
  • Strong strategic acumen.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to communicate technology development information and results to SRP staff and management and to facilitate technology transfer.

Experience

Five (5) years full time experience actively engaged in engineering practice. Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for the job of Senior Engineer.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution is required and a master’s degree in the area of specialty is preferred.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
