Who we are

Gatik, the leader in autonomous middle-mile logistics, is revolutionizing the B2B supply chain with its autonomous transportation-as-a-service (ATaaS) solution and prioritizing safe, consistent deliveries while streamlining freight movement by reducing congestion. The company focuses on short-haul, B2B logistics for Fortune 500 retailers and in 2021 launched the world’s first fully driverless commercial transportation service with Walmart. Gatik's Class 3-7 autonomous trucks are commercially deployed across major markets, including Texas, Arkansas, and Ontario, Canada, driving innovation in freight transportation.

The company's proprietary Level 4 autonomous technology, Gatik Carrier™, is custom-built to transport freight safely and efficiently between pick-up and drop-off locations on the middle mile. With robust capabilities in both highway and urban environments, Gatik Carrier™ serves as an all-encompassing solution that integrates advanced software and hardware powering the fleet, facilitating effortless integration into customers' logistics operations.

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Vehicle Dynamics Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. This role is integral to the development and validation of high-fidelity vehicle models used in Software-in-the-Loop (SiL), Model-in-the-Loop (MiL), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) environments. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with system-level performance and safety requirements, driving forward the performance and reliability of our autonomous vehicle systems.

This role is onsite at our Mountain View, CA office!

What you'll do

  • Develop, implement, and maintain high-accuracy vehicle dynamics models for simulation environments including SiL, MiL, and HiL.
  • Validate simulation models using data from real-world vehicle tests.
  • Analyze and interpret simulation results to support system troubleshooting, performance optimization, and root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with Controls, Perception, Software, and Systems teams to align model fidelity with development and testing requirements.
  • Support HiL testbed design and integration with vehicle subsystems.
  • Perform vehicle-level assessments related to ride, handling, stability, and overall dynamic performance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of modeling methodologies, validation processes, and simulation toolchains.

What we're looking for

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, Robotics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in the automotive industry with a strong focus on vehicle dynamics and control systems.
  • Expertise in simulation tools such as TruckMaker, TruckSim, ADAMS, and dSPACE.
  • Practical experience with HiL systems, CAN-based analysis, and debugging tools.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle sub-systems including suspension, steering, braking, powertrain, and tire dynamics.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for model development and simulation.
  • Working knowledge of Python and/or C++ for automation, analysis, and tool integration.
  • Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing autonomous or ADAS vehicle platforms.
  • Familiarity with integrating vehicle models into control architectures and simulation pipelines.
  • Exposure to safety-critical system development and verification processes (e.g., ISO 26262, ASIL).

Salary Range - $150,000-$220,000

More about Gatik

Founded in 2017 by experts in autonomous vehicle technology, Gatik has rapidly expanded its presence to Mountain View, Dallas-Fort Worth, Arkansas, and Toronto. As the first and only company to achieve fully driverless middle-mile commercial deliveries, Gatik holds a unique and defensible position in the AV industry, with a clear trajectory toward sustainable growth and profitability.

We have delivered complete, proprietary AV technology - an integration of software and hardware - to enable earlier successes for our clients in constrained Level 4 autonomy. By choosing the middle mile – with defined point-to-point delivery, we have simplified some of the more complex AV challenges, enabling us to achieve full autonomy ahead of competitors. Given extensive knowledge of Gatik’s well-defined, fixed route ODDs and hybrid architecture, we are able to hyper-optimize our models with exponentially less data, establish gate-keeping mechanisms to maintain explainability, and ensure continued safety of the system for unmanned operations.
