OVERVIEW:

The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology support to over 13,000 employees through a wide variety of program areas for the State of Maine. OIT oversees large scale enterprise applications that support the critical and diverse business needs of the State of Maine and its agencies.

ABOUT THE JOB DETAILS:

The Office of Information Technology is seeking a technical support specialist who is proficient in Cisco networking and data center technologies. The selected individual will join as a contributing team member and will assist in administering, installing, and maintaining enterprise level core Cisco networks and data center infrastructure. The selected individual will join a team of engineers working under the technical direction of the State’s Network Architect.

TECHNICAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Administration, development and maintenance of systems such as Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), Stealthwatch, Cisco DNA, Orion Solarwinds and other systems.
• Establish and maintain systems and procedures for the monitoring and performance tuning of State of Maine Networks.
• Administration, maintaining and troubleshooting all aspects of Cisco wired and wireless networks.
• Assist with Datacenter, WLAN, WAN, MAN and LAN topology designs.
• Handle work such as generating, installing, diagnosing, correcting, and maintaining network operations and related systems software for an enterprise-level network.
• Providing technical knowledge and offer suggestions to other team players and senior IT as well as advising our leaders to inform best practices and decision-making.
• Understanding of automation & scripting languages

To be successful the selected candidate must have experience and familiarity with Cisco routing, switching and management systems. They must be able to solve complex network issues, provide sound judgement and analysis, and offer viable solutions. This role requires an understanding of networking performance, capacity planning, hardware and software configurations, integrations, and all facets of implementation.

Work is performed under limited supervision. This position is located in Augusta, ME. The Network Services Group requires 24/7 hardware support. This requires the person in this position to be on-call in a rotation format.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

• Engage on projects and work with IT program needs that require Cisco wired and wireless capabilities.
• Perform a full range of system administration functions such as configuring, installing, monitoring, and maintaining Cisco routed networks and switches, as well as Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE), Cisco Catalyst Center, SolarWinds Orion as well as other state of the art systems.
• Collaborate on technical knowledge about Cisco switches and routers and other data communication software and hardware. This includes data center hardware and software.
• Aid in the development and maintenance of configuration standards, documentation of network devices, including servicing and upgrading of equipment.
• Create and maintain overall network topologies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A minimum of 6 years of a combination of related post-secondary education, technical certifications, or technology related work experience. Related training, internship experience etc. may be credited as related experience on a month-per-month basis.

The selected candidate will be required to pass the required background checks(fingerprinting may be required) as a condition of employment.
