Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. We are looking for an experienced Support Engineer with mechatronics and maintenance experience in technology development and manufacturing environments to help us develop and support the next generation of automated satellite test systems.

As a Project Kuiper Support Engineer you will participate in the development of test automation equipment, and control systems. You will own assembly and bring-up of mechanical systems, electrical enclosures and mechatronics equipment. You will work with engineering and maintenance teams to develop and maintain preventive maintenance plans and critical spare parts lists for engineering equipment, and will own the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on automated test systems. You will train production operations technicians on maintenance procedures and will ensure that their training keeps pace with improvements to production systems.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance of mechanical, electrical and control system elements, including PLCs, sensors, actuators, electrical control panels, electronic devices, and mechanical, pneumatic, and GN2/LN2 systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair failed or faulty electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and GN2/LN2 systems and devices.
  • Support electrical enclosure and automated test equipment design.
  • Install, test, and validate new control system elements and devices.
  • Write work instructions and provide recommendations for improved work definition.
  • Support day to day operation of satellite environmental test chambers, carry out chamber operations, and back-up and train equipment operators and technicians as needed.
  • Assemble mechanical components of automation equipment.
  • Interpret electrical schematics and install wiring for low voltage electrical and electronic devices.
  • Participate in design reviews of pre-release automation hardware.
  • Follow ESD safe protocols when handling sensitive electronic hardware.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years experience in electrical enclosure fabrication and wiring of cable harnesses or industrial control panels.
  • 2+ years experience with enclosure wiring, assembly of electronic components and following schematics.
  • 2+ years experience with assembly of mechanical components and mechatronic systems.
  • 2+ years experience in PLC programming, HMI design, command line usage, and troubleshooting of control system equipment including PLCs, I/O devices, and analog/digital sensors.
  • Experience operating, tuning and repairing motion control systems.
  • 2+ years experience with common electronics test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, etc.)
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders safely and effectively.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
  • Experience working with common hand tools on tasks such as assembly or maintenance of equipment
  • Hands on experience with debugging wiring and electrical issues using test equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or certificate in related field
  • Experience scripting in modern programming languages
  • Experience working in aerospace, automotive or electronics manufacturing.
  • Experience in testing of prototype hardware for aerospace, consumer, automotive, or automation equipment.
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to review and develop written instructions; document work performed, and follow up with engineers and management as required.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $67,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $150,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
