The Emerson Test & Measurement TBU (Transportation Business Unit) Customer Centric Solutions Team is seeking to hire an experienced Senior Systems Design Engineer (Software) to work on custom solution projects that enable the sale of standard NI Products. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with NI customers, sales personnel, engineering teams, partners, and contract manufacturers to define, document, design, deploy and sustain NI systems tailored to meet specific customer requirements for large scale turnkey engineering solutions. The ideal candidate has experience and knowledge regarding NI products and system level design.

Core Job Responsibilities:

This is a multi-functional role dealing with diverse engineering needs, including the ability to gather requirements, generate specification documents, and collaborate with internal engineers, integration partners, and contract manufacturers to design, deploy and sustain custom solutions. This is a high visibility role within NI requiring daily interaction with NI customers, partners, NI Sales Teams, NI Engineering Teams, and Executive Management. The role will include:

Leading the system definition, software architecture design, and implementation of custom solutions in the Automotive and Transportation industry

  • Interacting with a wide variety of NI customers, NI staff, external partners and suppliers in support of concept definition, development, and sustaining of custom solutions
  • Generating requirements documents, Statements of Work and Bills of Materials
  • Defining and implementing project plans, managing milestones and holding reviews to ensure systems meet requirements and readiness for deployment
  • Specifying, designing, prototyping, developing, testing, and deploying turnkey automated solutions
  • Directing support personnel, managing project technical deliverables, guiding technical decisions and driving field found issues to resolution
  • Traveling as needed (possibly up to 25%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectives

Experience and Skill Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • B. S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering Technology
  • Minimum of 7-years relevant industry experience in a Test Systems Design role, Software Engineering/Software Development role, or a Test Engineering Design role
  • Strong understanding of electronics & computer architectures, and electrical engineering
  • Proficiency in one or more relevant high-level programming languages (LabVIEW, TestStand, C/C++/C#, Python)
  • Demonstrated understanding of the following concepts and principles:
    • Collection and management of customer requirements
    • Appropriate selection of instrumentation and equipment
    • Software design and architecture
    • System and software engineering processes
    • Software management, configuration management and source code control
  • Integration of hardware and software
  • Bill of Materials creation and review

Preferred Skills:

  • Expertise in application development using different NI programming and configuration tools (LabVIEW, TestStand, VeriStand, SystemLink)
  • Hands on use of NI Hardware Platforms and Instruments
  • Experience managing software development projects in Azure DevOps
  • Experience in design and/or testing of automotive electronic components and electronic control units including form a dn HW validation
  • Experience working in large multidisciplinary teams (Sales, Product Management, R&D, Manufacturing, Compliance), coordinating activities for system development and delivery
