Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

About the team

The Discovery Experiences team is building the systems and surfaces that power how people find, explore, and engage with content throughout their creative journey on Canva. From search and content libraries to how assets are surfaced in the editor, our work spans the full spectrum of discovery—shaping the connective tissue that helps millions of people unlock their ideas.

We’re a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and product thinkers working at the intersection of user experience, platform infrastructure, and AI. We build core surfaces and foundational tools that enable not only rich discovery experiences for our users, but also extensible systems that other teams across Canva rely on to deliver their own solutions at scale.

By connecting users with the most relevant, inclusive, and inspiring content—and empowering other teams to innovate on top of our work—we play a key role in driving product engagement, unlocking creativity, and advancing Canva’s mission to empower the world to design.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

• Take ownership of high-impact features across discovery surfaces like search, content libraries, and the editor—working from initial idea through to shipping and iteration
• Lead frontend development on projects that integrate AI capabilities, improve performance, or enhance accessibility—bringing technical depth and a strong user perspective to the problem space
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, data scientists, and engineers across teams to shape solutions that are pragmatic, scalable, and deeply aligned with user needs
• Partner with backend and platform engineers to evolve and scale our frontend architecture, contributing to the foundations that support inclusive and performant discovery experiences
• Help shape and support experimentation efforts—leading or contributing to A/B tests that inform design decisions and accelerate team learning
• Contribute to design reviews, mentor peers, and help lift frontend craft and engineering practices across the team through feedback, documentation, and shared learning
• Identify opportunities to improve underlying systems, simplify workflows, or reduce technical debt—driving sustainable improvements that benefit both users and other engineers

You're probably a match if

• You have 7years++ experience building and evolving user-facing features in modern web frameworks, and you have experience navigating complexity across shared libraries, design systems, and application architecture
• You’re comfortable owning work end to end—from early-stage discovery and technical design through to implementation, testing, and iteration—and you know how to balance bold ideas with practical constraints
• You’ve worked closely with product, design, and data teams to solve ambiguous problems, and you enjoy collaborating across disciplines to shape thoughtful, scalable solutions
• You’re comfortable working through uncertainty and change, and you bring a calm, constructive presence to evolving priorities, shifting scopes, or unclear requirements
• You contribute to team culture by sharing knowledge, mentoring peers, and helping others grow in their craft
• You’re excited to make discovery experiences more accessible and intuitive for people around the world, and you value inclusive, equitable design as a core part of building great products
