This job contributes to Starbucks success by delivering high-quality, reliable, and stable technologies and security capabilities in support of the Starbucks Engineering Platform. This position is accountable for the installation, configuration, monitoring, analysis, maintenance, and technical support of the platform.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Communication: Convey complex ideas to non-technical peers and customers.
  • Collaboration: Establish cross-functional relationships with business and technology partners.
  • Development Standards Support: Establish standards for the development team and assist in prompt resolution of development issues.
  • Build and Release: Engineer and manage build and release processes.
  • Vendor Management: Effectively manage technology vendors to meet business objectives.
  • Research and Recommendations: Conduct research and recommend standards, products, and services. Create whitepapers on engineering topics relevant to larger organization.
  • Architecture: Ensure stable, secure, and compliant web & mobile applications
  • Security: Implement technologies in line with Information Security principles for sensitive data.
  • Operational Support: Provide high-availability support and automated solutions.
  • Telemetry: Implement deep telemetry for performance metrics.
  • Service Monitoring: Ensure continuous availability and operational continuity.
  • Compliance: Uphold company policies and legal/regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI).
  • Configuration Management: Maintain system configurations and baselines for secure development practices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Extensive software engineering experience with iOS, Android and/or Web mobile platforms
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing consumer-facing web & mobile applications
  • 9+ years of software development experience
  • Technical Leadership: 3 years of technical leadership with web and/or mobile platforms.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in integrating RESTful APIs, notifications and multi-threaded applications
  • Attention to detail, particularly around software engineering fundamentals
  • Advanced proficiency with one or more common modern web & mobile architectural patterns
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards: WCAG, Section 508. Knowledge of International laws is a plus
  • Familiarity using mobile accessibility features
  • Experience with Location services is a plus
  • Experience writing integration and unit tests
  • Strong Git experience
  • Experience with profiling tools to identify and improve app performance is a plus
  • Desired: Interest in creating accessible (a11y) products that everyone can use. A CPACC or WAS certification is preferred, but not required

  • If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
