Position overview:

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory¿s Facilities and Operations (F&O) Division manages one of the world¿s premier science facilities on Stanford site with 150+ structures for the Department of Energy. We are a service organization committed to the support and success of the Laboratory's Scientific Mission by providing safe and responsive engineering, construction, operations and maintenance of equipment, buildings and infrastructure.

Reporting to the Facilities Electrical Engineering Group Leader, the Electrical Engineer will support, other facilities electrical engineers or project managers with a range of complex design projects. The effort will include electrical data gathering, field surveys, creating single line diagrams, updating panel schedules, updating redlines, and as-built documentations. The Electrical Engineer ¿ 1 will be accountable for the preparation of drawings for electrical projects. This Engineer will also perform field verification and the development of as-built drawings for substations, high, medium and low voltage systems, manholes, metering and protective relay diagrams, equipment operational data, equipment nameplate database. Electrical Engineer will submit all design documentation to the SLAC Electrical Engineering Database.

Your specific responsibilities include:

  • Under general supervision, perform moderate to complex electrical design assignments. Update and maintain all related drawings and databases. Under supervision of Electrical Design Group Lead perform electrical design including drawings, diagrams, specifications.
  • Under the supervision of Electrical Design Group Lead or Design Manager, prepare detailed electronic (CAD) working plans, charts, electrical and control diagrams and other drawings for moderate to complex projects.
  • Perform onsite investigations and gather project information by observation, measurements, sketches and/or specifications. Collect and manage, this data.
  • Serve as a resource for non-routine inquiries and requests.
  • Participate in electrical engineering reviews and attend meetings.

To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • Bachelor¿s degree and not less than one year of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience including:
  • Experience with design and AutoCAD drafting of electrical systems for large and complex commercial, industrial, research or government facilities.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70, 70E and NESC codes and IEEE standards.
  • Experience collaborating in projects either as a team leader or responsible team member.
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical design and engineering studies.
  • Proficient knowledge of relevant CAD software.
  • Proficient at MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.
  • Able to coordinate and execute all design projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience reading and interpreting civil engineering, mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural drawings.
  • Possess mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to program and use, scanners, plotters and printers.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.

The expected pay range for this position is $87,256 - $97,800 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
