Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must be at least 16 years of age and currently hold, or be able to obtain prior to starting employment, an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate or an equivalent Lifeguard Certification, which includes training in CPR, First Aid, and AED for the professional rescuer.

Position Description:

The University of Louisville Athletic Department is hiring Intermittent Temporary Lifeguards for the Ralph Wright Natatorium. The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of swimmers and visitors at Ralph Wright Natatorium to minimize risk. The primary responsibility of the Lifeguard is to create a safe environment by enforcing safety rules and closely monitoring swimmer activities and behavior.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Observe swimmers to ensure their safety and enforce safety rules as needed.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
  • Assess injuries and provide first aid as necessary. (Including but limited to examining injured persons, administering first aid, monitoring vital signs, applying antiseptics and bandages, and administering artificial respiration to revive individuals.)
  • Monitor weather conditions to ensure the safety of swimmers and advise them about inclement weather.
  • Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas or illegal conduct.
  • Check and maintain pool water chemistry.
  • Perform general facility maintenance and cleaning, including taking out trash and maintaining restroom cleanliness.
  • Works with citizens of various ages and diverse backgrounds.
  • Assisting with other tasks as assigned by the Manager, Athletics Facilities (Director, Natatorium and Bass-Rudd Tennis Center).

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
