About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary

Caterpillar's IPSD validation team is seeking a Senior Engineer Test & Validation in Chillicothe, Illinois. This position will be responsible for engine validation tests, such as fuel system performance evaluation, cooling system performance, and turbo acceptance test, etc. The position will collaborate with various teams and business partners to complete engine validation tests and ensure Caterpillar engines and engine systems meet the performance, quality, reliability and durability requirements

What You Will Do:

  • Lead the engine testing team with a focus on non-structural engine validation, ensuring tests are executed efficiently and aligned with project objectives.
  • Guide the team in selecting appropriate testing approaches, tools, and techniques to maintain high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Estimate testing costs and timelines to support effective project planning and resource allocation.
  • Continuously improve testing processes to enhance reliability, reduce costs, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Identify and implement new technologies and methodologies to drive innovation and improve test outcomes.
  • Mentor and train team members, fostering a collaborative and technically strong work environment.
  • Conduct both structural and non-structural engine tests, ensuring adherence to safety and performance standards.
  • Provide feasibility input during gauge map development to ensure realizing effect planning
  • Prepare test parts and instrumentation, including the design and documentation of specially instrumented components
  • Collect and analyze the data and communicate results to internal stakeholders

What You Will Have:

Analytical Thinking (Extensive Experience): Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of technical problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking (Extensive Experience): Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Effective Communications (Extensive Experience): Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors

Technical Excellence (Extensive Experience): Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. Top candidates will also have FMEA/Validation planning, engine design, testing/validation and simulation experience.

Product Testing (Extensive Experience): Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing

Degree Requirements: Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum or equivalent experience working in an Engineering function.

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
